Reporting to the Director of Publishing Operations Technology, we are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Backlist Production Coordinator to manage the intricacies of our reprint and print-on-demand (POD) production processes efficiently. The Backlist Production Coordinator ensures seamless execution of reprint and POD projects, focusing on managing workflows, coordinating cross-functional teams, and maintaining quality standards. This role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments and external partners. Also, this role requires extensive knowledge of InDesign and Creative Suite applications, as the coordinator may be called upon to assist with production processing, preflight, and reviewing files for accuracy. This position can be hybrid in Naperville, IL or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI. The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $65,000 with the final offer dependent on experience and qualifications. Production Coordinator Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Oversee production timelines and ensure reprint and POD projects meet deadlines by coordinating effectively with editorial, design, and sales departments.
  • Scheduling and Planning: Develop and manage production schedules, including contingency planning to prevent delays.
  • Communication and Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between departments and external vendors to ensure clear communication throughout the production process.
  • Quality Control: Conduct thorough reviews of proofs and final copies, ensuring design, layout, and formatting meet quality standards.
  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with printers and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and adherence to specifications.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure necessary resources, including materials and personnel, are available for production phases.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of production schedules, budgets, and related communications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate production processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
What You Bring:
  • 3-5 years experience in similar production or publishing role.
  • Bachelors degree in Publishing our Graphic Design.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of overseeing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively within and across departments.
  • Familiarity with production management tools and software.
  • Experience in vendor coordination and quality assurance within a publishing environment.
  • Ability to resolve production issues proactively and efficiently.
