Job Description: In this highly specialized position, the Production Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that equipment/ operators are operating at optimum efficiency, coordinating all phases of manufacturing operations including primary processing, and coordination of maintenance, and that operators are professionally trained in equipment operations. The Production Engineer will have the following specialized duties and responsibilities:
  • Analyze production and packing equipment to make recommendations on continual improvements;
  • Work closely with plant and quality assurance personnel to review product quality consistency while monitoring yield rates and waste to determine trends and areas of improvement;
  • Supervise the manufacturing processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner;
  • Diagnosing problems in the production line and providing recommendations and training;
  • Strategically plan to remove production constraints, allocate human/ equipment resources, and direct production employees to attain all established goals and efficiencies;
  • Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the plant;
  • Establishing safety procedures and protocols that take the workers' well-being into account, and that also minimize the carbon footprint;
  • Keeping abreast of advancements in engineering and production and sharing knowledge with co-workers;
  • Analyzing all facets of production and making recommendations for improvement;
  • Assist in obtaining materials and equipment required for projects;
  • Ensure safety policies are being adhered to in the plant;
  • Encourage and promote operations in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Further, the Beneficiary will be responsible for ensuring all production paperwork is completed accurately and promptly, identifying, documenting, and reporting unsafe practices, assisting in creating production schedules and budgets for projects, working with the Plant Manager and management team on the implementation, recording, and oversight of KPIs for each department, analyzing workforce requirements and guidance to all departments and consulting with vendors to develop plans that improve production, costs, and labor required. This position also requires the Beneficiary to ensure safety and quality standards are being followed, production reporting, and assisting in lean manufacturing. In addition, the position will assist in reviewing and calculating labor, material, and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision-making. This position is advanced in nature as indicated by the above-detailed professional-level job duties. The position also meets the minimum education and/or work experience requirements set forth in Appendix 1603.D.1 of NAFTA.
