Job Function: Directs the manufacturing operation through a team of functional managers and front-line supervisors. Formulate, manage & achieve short and long-term operating objectives in areas such as safety & quality performance, cost management, efficiency improvements and overall customer service while promoting a culture of positive employee relations and continuous improvement. Job Responsibilities: 1. Maximizes yields (product to raw material ratios) and minimizes off-specification product. 2. Maximizes throughput (gallons of product per cycle time) and maximizing equipment utilization. 3. Responsible for implementing plans and checking on progress of scheduled products and timing of production. 4. Responsible for helping the Plant in accomplishing its short- and long-range objectives in an area of plant operations as necessary or as requested. 5. Exercise continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on priorities. 6. Deals with constantly shifting priorities and exercises continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on priorities. 7. Commits to carrying out the Company's Quality Policy (including but not limited to GMP's, HACCP, SQF, FDA and company outlined standards) and works with QA team to ensure that products meet customer standards and specifications. 8. Responsible to carry out customers' expectations, prevent problems, and strive for continuous improvement resulting in improved results for the plant, and our customers. 9. Selects, assigns, evaluates and instructs supervisors, and advises supervisors regarding direction of their employees. 10. Exercises supervision with respect to production volume, cost and quality of production; meeting production and delivery dates. 11. Forecasts labor requirements and recommends equipment and layout changes. 12. Recommends changes in production methods and material handling procedures. 13. Maintains compliance with Company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices. 14. Assists in budget preparation and cost control and demonstrates the ability to forecast budget and equipment needs. 15. Demonstrates effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel. 16. Demonstrates ability to prepare accurate, effective, and complete written communications and reports. 17. Establishes and maintains supervisor/management development programs to ensure bench strength of leadership team for advancement opportunities and training opportunities. 18. Ensures safety programs and procedures meet or exceed company goals on lost-time accidents and recordable injuries including investigations of near miss events, accidents/injuries, training and OSHA requirements and programs. 19. Spends greater than 70% of the time on the plant floor. 20. Understands all systems and equipment within the facility and is able to run all day-to-day floor operations. 21. Spends time on all three (3) shifts, which will be determined on the needs of the business. 22. Provides holiday coverage if necessary. 23. Supervises plant operations in plant manager's absence. 24. All other duties assigned by the Plant Manager. Job Qualifications: 1. Minimum of 7 years of related experience with considerable knowledge of plant operations and dairy manufacturing. 2. Ability to effectively plan work procedures, equipment, material and manpower needs. 3. Ability to effectively build and lead a productive work group as well as to perform as a member of the management team. 4. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. 5. Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) from a four-year college or university preferred. 6. Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of regulatory laws and responsibilities related to processing and filling. 7. Demonstrated understanding of budgeting and cost management. 8. Proven ability to train, supervise and develop staff, formulate policy, and direct activities. 9. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office including word, excel, PowerPoint). 10. Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs. 11. Must be available to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on call if required by site. SQF Requirements/ Responsibilities: 1. Maintain food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner. 2. Maintain SQF practitioner status and work as backup to the SQF expert. 3. Monitor incoming goods. 4. Monitor incoming services. 5. Coordinate the Corrective and Preventative Action program. 6. Maintain the Finished Product and Raw Material Release program. 7. Coordinate the Internal Audit Program. 8. Conduct Mock Recalls. 9. Coordinate and maintain the HACCP Program. 10. Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
