DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY The Production Manager is responsible for directing and managing all assembly production supervisors and assembly production operations, communication flow, and plant activities related to assigned assembly and fabrication lines. The position is responsible and accountable for safety, quality, productivity, material handling, cost performance, capital improvements, and assisting in budget preparation and managing employee relations in a high-mix medium-volume manufacturing work environment. The job requires monitoring production performance and implementing processes, procedures, and methods to improve results in all key functional areas. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining best manufacturing practices and regulatory compliance for all production activities. Also shares responsibility for preventive maintenance equipment repair, and maintenance performance and systems. Acts as a mentor and coach for less senior managers, supervisors, and team members.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEssential Functions Statement(s)
  • Understands and demonstrates company vision and values and hold direct reports and peers responsible for performance and behavior supporting the company mission and strategic priorities.
  • Manage supervisors leading the activities of production lines and follow established procedures and approved processes
  • Ensure the safety of all employees; lead a comprehensive safety program to prevent injuries. Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Hire, train, direct, and mentor staff and all plant employees with diverse language, cultural and educational backgrounds
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual plant operating and CapEx budgets.
  • Meet or exceed plant productivity, cost, or other performance metric expectations as outlined by the Director of Manufacturing
  • Lead plant in continuous improvement initiatives, such as 5S with safety, Rapid Improvement Events, Practical Problem Solving (PPS), and lean manufacturing
  • Coordinate production scheduling to meet customer demands, manage overtime, minimize inventory and reduce costs
  • Support quality initiatives to ensure the product meets or exceeds customer expectations while minimizing scrap and rework in the production processes
  • Build and maintain productive employee relationships, driving employee satisfaction
  • Recommend disciplinary action to the Director of Manufacturing, and review disciplinary action for effectiveness and consistency
  • Work with HR to address employee concerns and issues
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Supervisory Responsibilities:Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work assignments; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and resolving problems.Skills & AbilitiesEducation: Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Business Management or other related discipline is preferred. Minimum of associate degree in business technology or engineering or a combination of education and experience is required.Experience: 10 years of plant-level operations experience in a high mix/medium volume environment is required. Experience serving large, demanding customers, and understanding how to meet their needs. Minimum of 5 years of prior supervisory experience is required.Computer Skills: Basic computer skills with familiarity with Microsoft office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Certificates & Licenses: Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a plusOther Requirements: Knowledge of operational excellence principles, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and 5S is preferred. strong verbal and written skills as well as the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, customers, and management
