Position Summary:

The Assistant Baseball Coach/ supports Stetson University and reports to the Head Men's Baseball Coach and assists in the administration of all aspects of a highly competitive men's baseball program in accordance with NCAA Division I rules and philosophies. The position coaches, teaches, inspires, and motivates student athletes in the Men's Baseball program. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in overseeing the day-to-day operations of external development for baseball. This includes managing donor services, stewardship, and strategic communication in relation to the annual fund and the Melching Stadium renovation campaign. The position is also responsible for coordinating and executing all donor hospitality and fundraising events for Stetson University Baseball.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaches hitting and offensive skills as well as infield skills and techniques on a NCAA Division I level. This position requires physically strenuous work and physical exercise on a daily basis including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, stooping and lifting for long periods.
  • Evaluates and teaches current student athletes in the program.
  • Assists in the coordination and preparation for all pre-, in- and post-season training, practices and games.
  • Assists in all areas relating to the operation of the baseball program, including day-to-day administrative and operational responsibilities.
  • Motivates and inspires student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the field.
  • Assists the Men's Baseball Coach in the administration of all aspects of the men's baseball program.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits prospective student-athletics.
  • Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects, identifying, soliciting, and cultivating benefactors for annual gifts for athletics.
  • Overseeing stewardship planning for Major Gifts & Planned Giving.
  • Develops new sources for fundraising and revenue.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of appropriate public relations, fund-raising and promotional activities as necessary.
  • Attends functions related to the baseball program as a representative of the Hatter Athletic Fund.
  • Preparing and executing written communications and strategically planned communication.
  • Managing all donor and special events, including planning, invitations, staffing, and implementation. Events include but are not limited to the Baseball Golf Outing fundraiser, and the annual First Pitch Banquet.
  • Creating and managing confidential reports, lists, and documents for donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Developing and implementing communication and recognition plans.
  • Tracking actions in the database.
  • Collaborating with staff members to develop and execute programs in support of initiatives.

Work Environment: Duties require:

Both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and extreme cold; physical ability to endure physically strenuous work-outs and physical exercise on a daily basis, including standing and/or walking for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting; manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds; ability to work hours outside the normal University schedule; physical ability to travel; perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.

Required Skills

  • The candidate must possess the ability to work effectively with student-athletes, alumni, program boosters, the public and administrative staff.
  • The candidate should possess the ability to recruit, coach and teach a wide skill range of athletes the fundamentals and theories of baseball.
  • Division 1 baseball experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and build relationships with donors and alumni.

  • Detail oriented.

Required Experience

  • Required Qualifications: This position requires:

    • A Bachelor's degree required.
    • 2-5 years demonstrated college coaching experience in coaching baseball.
    • A commitment to the academic goals of Stetson University.
    • The candidate should possess knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and a commitment to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the NCAA and ASUN Conference as required.
    • As this position requires operation of University vehicles and traveling for team activities and recruiting purposes, the possession and maintenance of a Florida driver's license and insurable driving record is required. A motor vehicle record check and candidate background check must be passed prior to official hire.
