I. Position Description The Production Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring all equipment pertaining to the position in the shredding and separations area of the recycling facility. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates the shredding area.
- Operates the separations area.
- Operates forklift to load/unload material for processing.
- Performs minor maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Collects samples as required; submits samples to the lab as required and initiates corrective actions as indicated.
- Collects and records process data in appropriate places on forms.
- Accurately completes packing slips.
- Washes and cleans process equipment according to prescribed standards.
- Ensures equipment is operating correctly and safely and takes action to correct unsafe or potentially damaging conditions.
- Contains and controls all spilled and/or dumped product to maximize the recovery and minimize the generation of hazardous or non-hazardous waste.
- Processes refine material as instructed.
- Prevents the release of process material to the environment (air, water or soil) by monitoring the processes and taking corrective action as necessary.
- Performs all duties assigned by the production supervisor.
II. Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of tools and equipment, including forklifts, hoists, bobcat loaders, conveyors, robot pendants, air compressors, and basic tech like computers and radios.
- Must possess mechanical aptitude required to make adjustments and minor repairs to equipment and instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to perform work with accuracy and attention to detail.
- High School Diploma and the ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to read and write in English and exhibit proficiency in basic math.
III. Physical Requirements & Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
