Job Description:
Viracon LLCFunctionThe Operators, including Furnace, Machine, Silkscreen, Roll-Coat, and Utilities, are responsible for the efficient operation of glass production processes to meet production schedules, quality standards, and customer specifications. These roles involve operating and maintaining specialized machinery, such as heat-treating furnaces, roll-coaters, and Lisec cutters, as well as coordinating material staging and movement to ensure smooth production flow. Operators play a critical role in quality assurance, continuous improvement, and fostering a safe and organized work environment.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesFurnace Operators:1. Set up and monitor furnace controls for proper cycle times based on glass size, type, thickness, and color.2. Adjust cycle times and quench pressure as needed to achieve optimal product quality.3. Perform regular quality checks and maintain detailed records of furnace operations and conditions.4. Detect potential malfunctions, troubleshoot issues, and notify appropriate personnel of maintenance needs.5. Develop and implement new furnace setups for product innovation and improvement.Machine Operators:1. Operate designated machines, including Lisec cutters and special fabrication equipment, to meet production requirements.2. Interpret and execute optimized schedules, ensuring accurate sequencing and staging of materials.3. Perform minor adjustments and routine maintenance to maintain machine efficiency and quality output.Roll-Coat Operators:1. Mix paints and adjust viscosities to attain proper consistencies for production.2. Test for application rates and adjust setups to achieve desired paint thickness and density.3. Inspect painted rejects and quality returns, pinpoint and correct problems to prevent recurrence.4. Maintain equipment and work area to ensure continued quality production.5. Handle solvents, paints, oils, and waste materials using proper safety equipment, including impervious gloves, splash goggles, and NIOSH respirators.6. Maintain compliance with EPA and PCA standards in material handling, use, and storage.7. Communicate with the Line Scheduler and Scheduling Department to minimize setup times.8. Complete all documentation on a daily basis.Digital/Silkscreen Printer Operators:1. Operate Digital Printer, Silkscreen equipment, and all other essential equipment to produce printed glass meeting acceptable specifications for visual requirements.2. Ensure continuous workflow with minimal downtime by providing direction to Print Support and Print Assistance as needed.3. Perform image alignment, placement, and quality checks, and conduct quick setup and teardown procedures.4. Maintain supply of ink for the digital printer and ensure proper preventive maintenance procedures to prevent damage to equipment.5. Ensure cleanliness throughout the print room, line, and equipment, working closely with Process Engineering.6. Inspect for quality and take steps to pinpoint and correct problems to prevent recurrence.7. Assist with loading glass, seaming, logoing, and other tasks as assigned to balance workload and meet production schedules.Utility:1. Proofread all invoices to ensure customer-specific requirements such as unit makeup, surface designations, and silkscreen orientation are correct.2. Stage glass in proper sequence to promote efficient flow through production lines.3. Assemble and deliver glass lites on A-Frames according to sequential requirements.4. Inspect staged glass for proper quantities, quality, and running sequence to minimize downtime.5. Secure glass panels on frames to avoid breakage during storage or transit.6. Coordinate recuts and inter-company production movement to ensure accurate staging and delivery.Qualifications:1. High school diploma or equivalent GED preferred but not required.2. Ability to read, write, and understand work instructions in English.3. Strong mathematical skills related to measurements and sequencing.4. Familiarity with operating power tools and precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, protractors).5. Proven ability to take direction, follow instructions, and work independently.6. Ability to pass the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Test (Roll-Coat-specific).7. Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining equipment is an advantage.8. Effective communication and teamwork skills.9. Commitment to regular full-time attendance and promoting a positive work environment.10.
