Team or Function Overview

The Production Specialists are responsible for a variety of tasks to assist and improve the safety and efficiency of the production process. They are actively involved in the day-to-day operations, provide technical support, and are the production liaison with maintenance.

They ensure policies and procedures are being followed to provide the safest environment for the team members while manufacturing the highest quality product.

Summary

We are seeking a Production Specialist who will partner with the department manager to oversee the Roofing Mill production department and ensure that quality and productivity goals are met safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include creating operating procedures, promoting safe work practices, addressing process issues, providing operator training, ensuring quality compliance, controlling raw material usage, resolving daily production department issues, and working with maintenance to ensure the reliability of the equipment.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Being a leader in creating a 'Safety First' culture, and communicating our Safety protocols and Human Behavior Concept principles

* Identify and drive improvements in infrastructure and equipment reliability, performance, monitoring, and overall stability of the operation.

* Capacity planning and demand forecasting to meet systems demand, identifying performance bottlenecks, and devising tuning improvements.

* Build tools and automation that eliminate repetitive tasks and prevent incident occurrence.

* Participate in 24x7 operational support and on-call rotation shifts.

* Maintain productivity and foster continuous improvement through sound management practices including communication of goals, training of operators, directing the Production operation within established process specifications, and identification and resolution of production and Safety related issues.

* Support GAF Business Management Systems and associated programs

* Provide a safe workplace through adherence to company safety policies, housekeeping, and defined standards of training.

* Monitor compliance with safety policies and procedures, conduct inspections of plant areas, and ensure deficiencies found are addressed appropriately on time. Create new, or modify existing safety procedures when required.

* Ensure production crews are well-trained, involved, and committed to meeting production, quality, and safety requirements. Be the primary safety trainer for the Production department's new employees and others when requested.

* Provide leadership and direction to the Lead Operators, and crews. Ensure production operators receive appropriate training for their positions. Provide technical support through direct leadership in a highly involved workplace.

* Supporting the implementation, and sustainability of various new GAF initiatives - These include FORCE, 5S, Brain Cube, Poka, and others. These programs have proven to add value to the business when implemented and sustained effectively.

* Maintain an excellent quality level of the product produced at the lowest cost. Monitor key operating parameters to ensure the product adheres to specifications while minimizing raw material usage. Act as a liaison between the production crews and quality department on issues. Work with production crews to identify and reduce controllable quality issues.

* Manage projects of an appropriate nature.

* Cover production shifts for supervisors as needed.

* Implement and develop process standards in conjunction with quality evaluation and engineering.

* Serve as an internal consultant to supervisors and operators, offering technical expertise and guidance as needed. Represent production issues and expertise in assisting maintenance, engineering, and technical personnel.

* Participate in weekly and monthly raw material inventory counts and reconciliation.

* Monitor and track raw material usage to ensure product compliance, reduce overuse, and maintain cost goals.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

* Bachelor's degree preferred. A High School Diploma or equivalent coupled with an excellent track record of manufacturing experience and leadership will be considered.

* A minimum of 5+ years of work experience in a heavy manufacturing environment coupled with experience in the continuous process industry, preferably a webbed-based process.
