Make your career in metal at Maysteel!SUMMARY OF POSITION: With guidance from the Manufacturing manager, this position is responsible for the overall direction of designated manufacturing areas. Plan operations, assist in the establishment of priorities and sequences for manufacturing products, by utilizing knowledge of production methods and processes, machine and equipment capabilities and human resources requirements to coordinate activities that will meet or exceed customer requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Fosters a safety culture within the Department by enforcing compliance with established guidelines related to Health, Safety, and PPE.
  • Plan and formulate production requirements based on the production schedule to conform with releases and inventory requirements in accordance with shipping commitments.
  • Confer with the Production Planner to establish priorities to conform to the lead-time necessary to ensure delivery date integrity. Interface with internal regarding manufacturing status, to include schedules and problem areas. Anticipate potential problems, schedule or priority delays and participate in the development of alternative plans.
  • Ensure that work area is properly staffed based on production schedule and that each associate understands set requirements, to promote safety, quality, and cost.
  • Participate in related staff, team and/or task group meetings to ensure the continuous improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs. Participate in in-house training programs, including safety and orientation programs.
  • Investigate mechanical issues and notify maintenance of any problem areas.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Conducts accident investigations
  • Responsible for associate retention by participating in an associate relations program that includes communication; training; planning, assigning, and directing work; participation in interviewing; assessing talent; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Initiate corrective action where necessary. All responsibilities will be completed in accordance with Maysteel policies and applicable law.
  • Maintain the established budget and capital improvement plan with the responsibility of making recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare, present and maintain reports/records necessary to carry out the functions of the work area, as required or necessary. Perform the typing/word processing of letters, interoffice correspondence and various reports.
  • Contribute to an environment in which all associates are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve their individual and work area contributions to achieve desired business results.
  • Participate in related staff, team and/or task group meetings to ensure the continuous improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs. Participate in in-house training programs, including safety and orientation programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge for this position and within the work area through continuing education, subscriptions, certifications and memberships.
  • Conduct a continuous study of internal processes and methods, research new technology and develop proposals for application of such technology for the purposes of cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Maintains and monitors labor, attendance and production records.
  • Participates in weekend Supervision rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree (A.A.) ore equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.SCOPE: Directly supervises employees in one operational department consisting of an unskilled production labor workforce. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations' policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.COMPETENCIES:
