Position Summary
The Production Supervisor will supervise the activities of a single or multi-shift process operation that can include liquid compounding, powder blending, reactions, spray drying, extraction/distillation and extruder production in a safe, productive, and efficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position reports directly to the Production Manager and is responsible for Food Safety (especially in the absence of the Production Manager). Works closely with Production Planning in scheduling of production to meet customer requirements. Interfaces with warehouse personnel in the movement of approved raw materials and finished goods. Deals regularly with QC, USDA, Rabbinical Services, Customer Care, Flavorists, Maintenance and Safety to insure quality and safety in manufacturing of products.
* Supervises all production operations, ensuring quality production following established procedures and according to good manufacturing practices. Delegates work, shift assignments, and overtime in a fair and equitable manner to meet production objectives. Establishes and implements the training needs of staff to ensure they have the required competencies to carry out functions affecting product legality and safety in accordance with GMP, SQF, FDA, USDA, Kosher, Halal, Organic and Safety/Environmental regs.
* Responsible to direct, discipline and evaluate subordinates. Conducts performance reviews and contributes input toward compensation. Ensures that all safety procedures and practices are followed and that required safety equipment is utilized.
* Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and packing materials to sustain production needs within the guidelines of the production cost center budget.
* Responsible for maintaining all areas and equipment in a clean, neat, orderly manner within good manufacturing practices and TPM/Lean practices. Reports any food safety problems to the Production Manager as appropriate.
* Maintains operating equipment, issues work orders, schedules, and monitors maintenance work progress and completion.
* Responsible for the documentation, accuracy, and security of production sheets. Responsible for compliance with the Symrise HACCP/HARPC Plan. Supplies monthly production reports and scorecard information.
Required Qualifications
* High School Diploma / GED or equivalent level of education required. Bachelor degree strongly preferred.
* 3-5 years of experience in food, flavor, fragrance, and/or GMP manufacturing.
* 3-5 years of direct supervision experience in a production environment required (chemical, food, and/or flavor/fragrance industry is strongly preferred).
* Past experience should include responsibilities in planning, scheduling, and process quality and operations.
* Must have very good communication and interpersonal skills along with proficiency in the English language.
* Ability to understand and motivate people is imperative.
* Cost center management techniques are also essential.
* Must have experience troubleshooting issues on the production floor.
* Creative and analytical approaches to solving the daily challenges associated with a manufacturing operation (i.e. manpower, equipment usage, scheduling, new processes, customer requirements, etc.) is critical.
* Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills are essential.
* Self motivated, forward-thinking individual with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Previous work experience in a very fast-paced and high pressure, team-oriented, and professional work environment.
* Must be flexible to cover other shifts as needed (i.e. vacation coverage, etc.)
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
* HACCP / GMP certification is required. Applicants without this certification must obtain it within the first 6-12 months of employment if hired.
* Experience with ESAP is highly desired.
* PCQI certification is an advantage.
* Experience driving a forklift is a plus.
