Job Description:
You will manage, direct and coordinate all activities related to a production shift to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining quality. You will typically supervise approximately 50 employees and lead and coach problem solving with operators and technical resources. You will coordinate with scheduler to ensure daily production requirements are achieved. You will carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. You will ensure all production data is gathered and reported correctly on a daily basis. You will support and improve upon quality initiatives designed to meet plant goals. You will ensure safety programs are implemented effectively, reviewed regularly and revised as necessary.As a Manufacturing Supervisor, you will have diverse responsibilities with the overall goal of developing Team Leaders and their team members into highly successful business units. You will coach, motivate, and mentor Team Leaders who, in turn, lead a total of 50-100 non-union hourly employees. You will spend significant time on the manufacturing floor and will work with your Leaders to build strong relationships with them, communicate the plant vision, proactively seek their input and guide them to achieve consistent results in areas such as safety, quality and profitability targets. You will work with your manager to identify goals and opportunity areas, and then apply situational leadership to allow your team to determine the best solutions or, when necessary, provide leadership examples in problem solving, continuous process improvements or change efforts. Regardless, you will hold your Team Leaders and the entire manufacturing team to high work standards, encouraging them to identify and implement improvements and solve problems themselves.The Jacksonville, IL plant continuously implements Lean Manufacturing initiatives. As a Manufacturing Department Supervisor, you will play a critical role in driving Lean transformation. Key tenets of Lean include continuous process improvement in the areas of customer focus, waste elimination, employee involvement and a disciplined approach to operations. To be successful, you will have to lead and engage the manufacturing team in Lean initiatives such as Kaizen (continuous process improvement). You will also have the responsibility of developing the skills of Team Leaders so that they effectively engage their team members in continuous improvement activities. This will require you to use your change leadership skills to communicate the vision and the purpose, identify obstacles and work with individuals who may be resistant to change.
