Campbell Ave., Tucson, AZ 85719 USA Position Highlights The Food Product and Safety Lab (FPSL) within the School of Animal & Comparative Biomedical Sciences see a Production Supervisor. This position will maintain daily functional status of the Food Product and Safety Lab, including daily equipment functionality and preparedness. Perform equipment and facility maintenance functions as instructed. Participate as a team member in maintaining the food processing activities and facilities in compliance with USDA regulations, directives, guidelines, and policies. Also cooperate with sanitation, operation, and regulation of all food processing areas. This position will also perform nonroutine or precision functions involving working in slaughtering, meat processing, and meat packaging, or wholesale establishments performing functions involving the preparation of meat, adherence to safety and sanitation standards, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students. Work may include specialized slaughtering tasks, cutting standard or premium cuts of meat for marketing, grinding, and packaging of cooked and raw product. Duties & Responsibilities Respond to the facility outside of the normal work period, when necessary, to assist with product handling relating to mechanical problems and special situations to combat temperature failures and preserve product integrity. Responsible for the overall quality and consistency of product produced in compliance with all USDA guidelines. Ensure effective cleaning in all process areas, maintaining a high standard always. Adhere to USDA labeling, health, and safety guidelines. Coordinate with other departments, such as quality control, maintenance, and logistics, to ensure smooth workflow. Manage and supervise positions in the FPSL to include staff and student employees. Set standards, objectives and targets for each team member. Assign tasks to production employees, students, and staff and ensure they are completed efficiently. (Train current and new employees on all policies, procedures and best business practices of the Food Product and Safety Lab). Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including USDA regulations and university policies. Verify and complete Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) records necessary to comply with USDA Guidelines regarding harvesting, fabrication and processing. Ensure that all procedures are adhered to in relation to waste and continuously look to suggest improvements Ensure allocation of duties to personnel within area. Monitor and report on any security issues. Respond directly/positively to customer feedback and take action as required, including complaint procedures. Develop contingency plans and protocols for handling emergencies or unexpected events, such as equipment failures, product recalls, or adverse publicity, to minimize disruptions to production and to mitigate reputational risks. Physical and Environmental Requirements: Ability to carry out the physical aspects, including but not limited to standing for 100% of the time, carrying product trays, processing deliveries, robust cleaning, cutting movements, etc. Have the physical ability to work in rigorous environments, which includes livestock slaughter, carcass fabrication, wet processing environments and freezers. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advance learning attained through professional experience. Minimum of 3 years of related work experience of equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Preferred Qualifications Fully qualified meat production specialist with a minimum of 5 years Butchery experience (preferably in a processing plant).
