The mission of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is to advance Indiana's prosperity, health, and quality of life. Each year MEP serves hundreds of manufacturing companies, businesses, high tech start-ups, life science companies, governmental units, and not-for-profit organizations. Impacts include significant sales increases, cost reductions, capital investments, and jobs created or saved. The MEP Productivity Improvement Specialist is a subject matter expert for Lean, Six Sigma, and/or Manufacturing Operations. The role can deliver high-value, fee-based services to a diverse base of manufacturers in Indiana, as well as significantly contributing to the development of new services or training curriculum. Responsible for implementing transformational change through continuous improvement at manufacturers and other businesses throughout the state of Indiana. This will include consulting and training that transforms organizations to world class performance through direct, in-person and virtually led deliveries. Success is measured by the economic impact made for the organization in retained or increased jobs, retained or increased jobs, retained or increased sales, cost savings, quality improvement, capital investment, and other financial measures. The office location for this position will be home office or within one of Purdue's statewide or partnering facilities in accordance with Purdue policy. MEP Office Location: Carmel, Indiana. Strict adherence to Purdue confidentiality policies is required. This position is eligible for annual incentive compensation. What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Communications, or a related field
  • Four or more years of experience implementing continuous improvement through Lean Six Sigma methodologies, in a manufacturing environment, or project management/process improvement
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related work experience
  • Excellent skills in consulting and training
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to drive an automobile for up to 6 hours per day or up to 3 hours with an overnight stay outside of home
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external clients
What Is Helpful:
  • Master's degree
  • Ten or more years of experience implementing continuous improvement through Lean Six Sigma methodologies that result in documented economic impact (cost savings, sales retained, sales created, jobs created, jobs retained, investment in the organization, and other metrics)
  • Five or more years as a manager or supervisor in a manufacturing operation that included responsibilities for productivity and personnel decisions
  • Five-ten years of experience leading kaizen events that result in documented economic impact (cost savings, sales retained, sales created, jobs created, jobs retained, investment in the organization, and other metrics)
  • Prior responsibility for profit and loss in a manufacturing operation
  • Five or more years of experience training, coaching, mentoring, and certifying Six Sigma Green Belts or Black Belts
  • Lean Bronze or Lean Silver certification; Six Sigma Black Belt or Six Sigma Master Black Belt
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience in statistical analysis coupled with the ability to provide objective feedback and accurate root cause analysis
  • Excellent project management skills and experience including client relations and identifying continuation of work opportunities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with practical knowledge of concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of supply chain development and optimization for a small- to mid-sized operation
  • Strong practical knowledge of analytical tools such as eVSM, Minitab, Life-cycle management, ERP, etc.
  • Knowledge of design, implementation, and/or management of Industry 4.0 technologies/systems
