Summary:

NOTE: This position will support MyMichigan Medical Center Tawas, currently Ascension St. Mary's, and will be based in Tawas. Filling this position is contingent on the final close of the sale between Ascension and MyMichigan Health, and we reserve the right not to fill this positionin the event the final sale is delayed or canceled.

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the billing functions for MyMichigan Health and MyMichigan Medical Group physician practices. This position is responsible for billing and follow up of insurance accounts. It includes verification of benefits and communication with the insurance companies. It requires review of the general appropriateness of account balances.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(100%)*Submits new electronic and paper insurance claims. Performs follow up on outstanding insurances balances including contacting the insurance company and utilization of the internet. Makes appropriate decisions regarding the status of an account utilizing carrier specific billing knowledge.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews outstanding physician insurance claims on a timely basis.

Processes additional billings as required to obtain maximum payment on account.

Responds to correspondence appropriate to area of responsibility.

Communicates effectively with other department staff to resolve insurance billing issues.

Maintains accuracy of insurance and patient account status.

Understands payer billing requirements.

Resolve credit balances.

Performs other miscellaneous related duties.

Required Education:

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Comments: High school diploma. Experience in medical billing, medical office setting and medical terminology perferred. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software preferred.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Equivalent Experience and Other Comments (Education):

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Good written and oral communication skills.

One year experience in a computerized medical setting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and

death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0?33% of the workday) lift or carry 0?10 lbs.
