Our department provides a supportive and rich academic environment for innovative research, with special opportunities for research on population health and health equity and ample opportunity for collaboration. Our department has primary responsibility within UCSF for delivering training in the methods of epidemiology, biostatistics, health data science, public health, and health services research. The DREAM Lab has a robust portfolio of funded research investigating the multi-level drivers of health inequities, examining factors ranging from structural and social drivers of health to molecular factors. This is an opportunity to join an energetic program at one of the nation's top medical research institutions.Duties: This Professional Researcher (“Research Scientist”) position, designed for PhD-level researchers, will contribute to multi-disciplinary, collaborative research projects conducted by the DREAM Lab. For early-career researchers, this role will offer unique opportunities to gain the experience and skills to become an independent researcher. For mid-stage researchers, this role will offer opportunities to expand and apply expertise in disparities research, and be involved in large, multidisciplinary initiatives. The Professional Researcher (“Research Scientist”) position will:Work directly with DREAM Lab Principal Investigators and other members of the DREAM Lab to collaboratively design, conduct, and lead research, including community-engaged research, on the role of structural and social drivers/determinants of health, and the molecular pathways by which they impact upon health outcomes; develop and lead a progressively independent research program aligned with the scope and mission of the DREAM Lab;contribute to grants as Co-Investigator and Principal Investigator; present research findings at scientific conferences; publish papers in peer-reviewed literature. Qualifications: Candidates must have:PhD, ScD or DrPH in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, health policy, data science/informatics, or a closely related field (MD with at least a master's degree in these disciplines may be considered); Strong epidemiologic study design and analytic skillsExcellent communication skills, including advanced writing skillsExpertise, with a strong publication record, in conduct of advanced epidemiologic studies.Strong interest and established excellence in health inequities research and research on structural and social drivers of health. Experience preparing grant applicationsOther preferred qualifications include: cancer epidemiologic research; advanced epidemiologic methods including causal inference models, multi-level analyses, geospatial analysis; experience working with large databases such as cancer registry data, geospatial data, electronic health records data, molecular data.
