Professional Support InternRequisition IDreq31748Working TitleProfessional Support InternPosition Grade08Position SummaryAmerican IndianStudent Services (AISS) is seeking a Professional Support Intern to engage inan experience designed to provide on-the-job training and development for arecent college graduate. The Professional Support Intern will join a team ofprofessionals dedicated to supporting the University's enrollment, retention,and graduation goals; and provide support to students with specific needsrelative to higher education navigation and success. Undertaking a wide rangeof job duties and tasks for college transition initiatives, student mentorshipprograms, student leadership development opportunities; and providingcomprehensive support for projects and programming activities of varyingcomplexity and structure are the primary duties and responsibilities of theposition. The successful candidate should possess developed oral and writtenskills and networking expertise. Experience collaborating and interacting withdiverse constituents and tribal governments, higher education programs, andentities specific to American Indian communities are critical elements of thein-person position.The individual selected for this position will:
  • Create and support student-led programming by providingongoing daily coaching and support to AISS student employees focused on theorganizational components of AISS programs (Success Series Workshops, AmericanIndian Summer Bridge (AISB) Program, AISS Ambassador Program, FAF$A-FOR-U, andAmerican Indian Convocation).
  • Support the creation of comprehensive content for the AISSsocial media platforms, including but not limited to: Snapchat, Instagram, andFacebook.
  • Provide direct support to department staff for projects& initiatives focused on student recruitment & outreach efforts;student engagement, program design/planning, staff training, and facilitiesplanning.
  • Provide intermediate-level professional and administrativeservices for daily department operations and objectives under supervision ofdepartment professional staff.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation ofprogrammatic initiatives relative to academic advising, financial aid &scholarship guidance, and student support services to prospective, new, andcurrent undergraduate students.
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance, and analysis ofprogram activity data and support the development of statistical and narrativeprogram reports and evaluations.
  • Assist with the development of complex project, operations,and/or events.
  • Serve as an active participant or department representativein a variety of department/division-specific and university-wide studentprogramming initiatives.

  • This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.
Minimum QualificationsMust be currently enrolled at an accredited university in a Bachelor's or higher level degree program, and are within 12 months from graduating OR a recent graduate of an accredited university with a Bachelor's or higher level degree obtained no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire; no previous experience required.Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated proficiency/experience in:
  • Project Planning Skills.
  • Social media content development.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex and detailedtechnical instructions.
  • Logistics support with student leadership, mentorship, andretention initiatives.
  • Conducting recruitment & outreach activities and otherstudent support service related projects/programs in partnership with variouscampus departments.
  • Creating design sets and copy for print publications/digital& web-based communication/social media platforms utilizing Canva, AdobeExpress, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Working on a team and/or in a collaborative work-setting,multi-tasking and creative problem-solving and working in a high-trafficcustomer service environment.
  • Effectively communicating and interacting with varioustribal governments, organizations, higher education programs; and a wide rangeof individuals representing diverse communities.
