Job Description:

Dominican University New York (formerly Dominican College of Blauvelt) located in Rockland County, 20 miles north of New York City, has openings for Professional Tutors. Each Professional Tutor is a part-time staff member of the Academic Success Center (ASC) appointed to the position for the course of the grant and housed in the ASC to support the students in their STEM courses.

Each part-time position has a variable schedule that will encompass up to 20 hours a week during the traditional fall and spring semesters for a total of 30 weeks and a maximum of 600 hours. Paid training is available.

* Writing Tutor

Requirements:

Minimum: Masters in a relevant discipline or education.

Preferred: Masters plus two years of tutoring or teaching particularly with a diverse population within a higher education setting. Bilingual in English-Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide tutoring services for students in an individualized setting and develop appropriate study aids for these students

2. Help students evaluate and provide recommendations to improve their study skills, time management, and other related academic skills

3. Be available to work with students in-person and remotely

4. Follow the four-step process for tutoring

5. Develop and conduct workshops and programming which focuses on the instruction of a specific skill or topic

6. Assist students in the use of technology

7. Schedule appointments and contact students to help maintain regular attendance

8. Generate and record descriptions of tutoring appointments and workshop attendance in TracCloud

9. Create and maintain a supply of exercises and tutoring materials

10. Make students aware of various special services resources available to them at the University (the Office of Special Services, Career Development, etc.)

11. Attend and participate in staff and university meetings and conferences, as requested

12. Visit classes to inform, survey, and encourage students to use the ASC as a resource for academic assignments in their courses

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary: $40.00 per hour.
