Job Description:
The Center for Health Statistics and Informatics (CHSI) is responsible for department-wide initiatives to improve the effectiveness of our work through better health information systems, increased application of epidemiologicmethods of analysis, strong liaisons with public health organizations and schools of public health, and effective partnerships with local health agencies and professionals. CHSI houses the Office of Vital Records, responsible for registering all California vital events and providing birth, death, and marriage records to the public. In addition, CHSI is involved in many cross-cutting and innovative data projects including the statewide Open Data Portal and Health Information Exchange.This position supports the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a wide variety of the more complex technical analytical assignments relative to the quality and issuance of vital records in the State.The Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) has the responsibility for independently preparing, researching, and analyzing legislative concepts, legislative proposals, and defining State and Federal policies to local health departments, county recorders' offices, county clerks' offices, and county coroners' offices. Independently conducts research and analysis to maintain detailed knowledge and disseminate information relating to policies and procedures. The AGPA provides operational system support, maintenance for business processes, and data reporting. Up to 5% travel may be required, including overnight stays.Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience in writing automation macros with VBA scripting or strong knowledge of other scripting languages.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in tasks or work environment and handle a variety of responsibilities.
  • Ability to properly apply laws, rules, policies, and procedures and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to research and analyze data, solve complex problems and recommend an effective course of action.
