Description

OverviewThe Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library/SNFL is the largest circulating library in the NYPL system. This library is a vital hub for library patrons in and around the City of New York and serves as a bridge between our neighborhood libraries and in-depth research library collections.Reporting to the Manager, A/V, SNFL, this position is responsible for supporting audio/visual production (lighting, audio systems, etc…) and technological needs for a range of events and services in SNFL. This position will coordinate with programming staff and internal departments to determine audiovisual and technological requirements, assist to ensure staffing and equipment needs are met, perform the setup and operation of technology for any event, and perform staff and public technology training and assistance.We are looking for someone we can count on to:

  • Own: the operational support of the full a/v experience at SNFL (lighting, a/v systems)
  • Teach: colleagues to utilize and troubleshoot technology as it relates to programmatic activities
  • Learn: SNFL a/v systems (audio, video, lighting)
  • Improve: a/v processes, workflows, and efficiencies

Some expectations for this role are that within:

  • 1 month: onboard, learn systemwide information and building-specific details
  • 3 months: contribute to and support programmatic activities
  • 6 months and beyond: support programmatic activities with limited supervision
Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, A/V, SNFL, this position:

  • Support all aspects of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library's technological and programmatic needs (a/v, lighting)
  • Train and support staff on A/V and computer technology
  • Ensure that all A/V materials and equipment are handled properly and accounted for at the end of the day
  • Perform basic repairs, adjustments, and cleaning of A/V devices.
  • Provide input and expertise on A/V and technology purchases
  • Troubleshoot and assist with the handling of specialized user needs
  • Assist with new A/V and/or technological initiatives and workflow, including documenting public programs and equipment maintenance
  • In the absence of the Coordinator, help supervise 3 part-time Program and Technology Assistants and other hourly staff
  • Schedule and facilitate virtual/remote support for all programs.
  • Assist with SNFL digital signage content creation and workflows
  • Assist in monitoring programs and attendees for SNFL.
  • Attend and participate in library staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide computer technology instruction and support to the public.
  • Knowledge of accessibility design or construction.
  • Performs related duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education, Experience & Certifications

  • 4 years proven experience with A/V technology and computer hardware/software or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Skills

  • Proficient with analog and digital technologies
  • Demonstrated experience with video/film projection including work with laptop projection and digital video.
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to work with both Mac and PC computer platforms
  • Successfully demonstrated experience working with a variety of A/V formats and equipment (Lighting, Crestron, digital consoles, projectors, wireless microphones, etc…)
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to teach basic computer technology to the public
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to perform work independently with speed, reliability, and accuracy in an automated environment, including the ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems as they arise.
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate well with others, including co-workers, library users, and creative collaborators
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite
  • Successfully demonstrated experience working with Zoom, Google Meet, and related virtual meeting platforms
  • Able and willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and some weekends
