POSITION: Assistant Program DirectorDEPARTMENT: Youth ServicesLOCATION:New York, NYREPORTS TO: AmeriCorps Program Director SALARY:$25 Per HourSCHEDULE:Monday-Friday- 1:00PM-6:00PM; and occasional SaturdayDATES:Temporary position; February, 2024- June, 2024JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director will provide support to the AmeriCorps/ COMPASS Program Director to ensure the successful operation of the AmeriCorps and COMPASS program, as well as JUMP! The Assistant Director will help promote the overall mission and goals of Grand St. Settlement, AmeriCorps, and DYCD. They will aid the Director in inspiring and motivating members to improve lives, become engaged citizens, and to achieve their goals during the program. Additionally, as part of our Youth Services Department's vision: all Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand St. Settlement sites, and will promote and develop a safe and engaging environment for youth.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required with a background in education or social work
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in teaching and counseling high school and college age students, curriculum design, and coordinating workshops, orientations, and trainings
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in facilitating workshops/ team building exercises
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in classroom management techniques and strategies
  • Experienced in coaching, counseling, mentoring, problem solving among young adults and adults
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in youth and community development, volunteerism, community outreach and partnerships
  • Advance proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, internet research, and social media
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be comfortable in public speaking
  • Knowledge of CNCS/ AmeriCorps and DYCD; completed AmeriCorps term of service a plus
  • Detail oriented, organized, and confident working with young adults
  • Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, and enthusiastic
  • Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; Physical w/ updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
  • If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all staff, community partners, and members/ students while remaining professional at all times, and be able to motivate members/ students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance and most importantly, professionalism.
  • Must be available to work at least one Saturday per month
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Training
  • May have to complete AmeriCorps training and/or DYCD trainings
Program
  • Assist in supervising and supporting 38 AmeriCorps
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and trainings twice (2) a week
  • Assist in member meetings, orientations, trainings
  • Assist in site visits and member evaluations
  • Assist in conducting follow-up with members, staff, and community partners
  • Supervise members on service days
  • Assist in coordinating special team building, kick off, and recognition events
  • Assist in coaching, mentoring, and counseling members/students, and problem solving
  • Supervise participants on JUMP! trips
  • Community networking
Administrative
  • Assist in recruitment, enrollment, and placement of members
  • Track and enter DYCD attendance
  • Assist in maintaining site folders and member files
  • Assist in creating and administering surveys
  • Input/ update and maintain excel datasheets and draft weekly emails
  • Assist in the coordination of service days
  • Assist in ensuring program compliance
  • Maintain calendar of service days, events, meetings, and site visits
  • Assist in the collection, approval, and filing of data, timecards, sign in sheets, daily activity logs
  • Produce accurate reports/ documents and presentations
  • Assist in orientation and developing training materials
  • Assist in tracking and verifying members' hours
Keep track of program and office suppliesOther
  • Communicate regularly and appropriately with site managers, members, vendors, and partner
  • Coordinating workshops and curriculum design
  • Complete all necessary paperwork that is required
  • Come ready to work with a positive attitude
  • Supervise youth staff/ members
  • Other assignments as required
