Job Summary

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars and Medical Student Coordinator will help coordinate the AHEC Scholars program, which includes working with thirteen different AHEC Centers. Also, this person would also be coordinating with the medical students from Family Medicine.Applies acquired skills and process and policy knowledge to support undergraduate medical education for the FAMILY & COMMUNITY MEDICINE department, AHEC, faculty and medical students. Coordinates AHEC Scholars program, scheduling, monitoring databases, tracking, recruitment, evaluations and compliance.Reviews, approves and/or denies all AHEC scholar applications using provided criteria. Coordinates medical student orientation, schedules and evaluations. Responds to requests from the Office of Medical Education (OME).Involves designing, conducting, promoting, evaluating and supporting health professions education programs in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. Supports learners (including but not limited to AHEC faculty, Residents, clinical fellows, graduate or undergraduate learners, practicing or licensed professionals) in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of health professions education programs.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Department Description

UCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF located in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is administered by the Office of the Associate Dean in Fresno. Programs and affiliations of the UCSF Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry are administered by UCSF Fresno. The UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program (MEP), the largest component, offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate training programs with particular emphasis on primary care clinical disciplines.The Department of Family & Community Medicine includes a complex three-year postgraduate training program with three continuity clinic sites, 24/7 inpatient coverage at two hospitals and 39 four-week rotations involving three hospitals and over 50 educational agreements. There are currently 36 Family & Community Fellow positions. The department also includes an ACGME accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program and non-accredited Maternal Child Health and HIV fellowships with 2 positions each. The department also has a robust Medical Student program with approximately 40 undergraduate medical students rotating throughout the academic year.The mission of the California Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is to improve access to and the quality of, health care for medically underserved populations of California using academic-community partnerships for health education and health workforce training. The California AHEC supports community based recruitment, training and retention of health professionals. It seeks to identify, educate and place health professionals with appropriate cultural and linguistic skills in underserved communities and does so through development and maintenance of partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions and health care service organizations. The California AHEC Program provides funding for primary care community-based education and training programs and supports training sites located in medically underserved areas of the state.The AHEC Scholars program enables high-potential students in health professions to explore primary care with an emphasis on community health and to practice in medically underserved communities. This longitudinal, interdisciplinary Scholars Program is divided into three components (community-oriented education, clinical training and a community-based health project) that supplement students' existing health training programs over the duration of two academic years.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum 1+ directly relevant experience.
  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail-oriented precision.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues.
  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related area preferred.
  • 2 years of medical education experience.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program.
