Description The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Adventure Outings Program Coordinator. This is a full-time, full year (2080 hours), non-exempt position. The starting pay range is $24.50 to $27.00/hr; placement in range is dependent upon experience and skills. The anticipated schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with the possibility of occasional nights and weekends as required and on short notice. This schedule is subject to change based on operational needs. Adventure Outings is a renowned outdoor recreation and education program in its 40th year of operation. AO is a complex organization offering an excellent Outdoor Trips program, a 36-foot tall climbing wall and bouldering area, a bike hub, an outdoor rental center, a technical tree climbing program, a backcountry yurt/retreat center, a Wilderness Wildcat Orientation program for incoming students, an annual 2-day Banff mountain film fest event, multiple workshops, bi-yearly backcountry medicine trainings, and much more. Applications reviewed upon receipt.PROGRAM COORDINATORADVENTURE OUTINGSSUMMARY Under the supervision of the Adventure Outings Program Director, the Program Coordinator assists in the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the Adventure Outings programs. This role also supports the management of fleet vehicles and trailers, driver training and assessments, and contribute to student staff hiring, training, and supervision. The Program Coordinator works closely with the Program Director to ensure seamless operations, shared responsibilities, and strategic alignment across all Adventure Outings offerings and programs and with Associated Students and Chico State as a whole. Typically a Monday through Friday schedule, this position requires flexibility as some nights and weekends may be required as needed on short notice. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborative Program Management: Assist the Program Director in managing the WREC Climbing Gym, Adventure Outings Equipment Room, Bike Hub, marketing, and trips program with shared oversight of staff, budgets, policies, training, and maintenance.
- Facilities and Equipment Oversight: Co-manage AO's backcountry yurt and ensure regular maintenance of all equipment and vehicles in partnership with the Program Director, contributing to broader operational objectives.
- Fleet and Driver Coordination: Collaborate with the Program Director and student managers on fleet management, including vehicle maintenance, driving tests, driver training, and compliance.
- Staff Supervision and Development: Manage the hiring, training, and evaluation of Adventure Outings student staff in coordination with the Program Director, ensuring unified leadership across all areas.
- Program and Event Leadership: Create, organize, and facilitate trips and special events as needed, working closely with the Program Director to maintain a cohesive approach to participant engagement and trip offerings. May lead trips on short notice in the absence of the Trip Leader.
- Policy and Procedure Development: Assist in the development and revision of program manuals, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with Adventure Outings' strategic direction.
- Risk Management: Work with the Program Director to conduct annual program assessments and safety reviews, facilitate legal and liability awareness, and implement best practices in risk management in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Risk Management.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Represent Adventure Outings within the campus community and among external partners, collaborating with the Program Director to ensure consistent communication and strategic partnerships.
- General Administration and Strategy: Participate in weekly staff meetings and assist with the general administration of Adventure Outings, contributing to program assessment, growth initiatives, and long-term planning.
- Campus Security Authority: This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements of this designation. Training is required and will be provided

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments with occasional exposure to varying weather conditions. - Contribute to the overall strategy and success of Adventure Outings programs in close coordination with the Program Director
MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) years of experience in outdoor recreation management, training, and supervision, ideally in a campus setting.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Outdoor Education, or a related field.
- Experience coordinating indoor climbing walls, equipment rental, and program logistics.
- Familiarity with outdoor programs, e.g., NOLS or Outward Bound, and a background in at least two outdoor areas (Paddling, Rafting, Backpacking, Camping, Mountaineering, Skiing, Climbing, Caving, Bicycling)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of or ability to obtain within three 3 months of hire a current and valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record.
- Current Wilderness First Responder (or WEMT) and CPR certifications are required or must be acquired within 3 months of hire.
- Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
