CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Program Coordinator - Education Specialist SALARY: $51,351.57 - $66,418.96 DEPARTMENT: Macomb Community Action Opening Date: 11/08/2024 Closing Date: 11/25/2024 12:00 a.m. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - overtime pursuant to collective bargaining agreement and/or Human Resources policy Employment Relationship: Just cause subject to probationary period GENERAL SUMMARY Under direction, monitors the implementation of Head Start Program education and child development services. Provides resources and support to classroom staff to assure the Federal Performance Standards and all other operating regulations are met. Performs related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Monitors and ensures the implementation of the education goals and objectives of the Head Start Program. Observes, supervises and evaluates classroom staff and operations. Coach and mentor classroom teachers to carry out improvement goals. Foster positive relationships with local school districts and community agencies. Acts as a resource person for developmentally appropriate activities and practices. Provides staff and parents with training and information. Plans and conducts applicable workshops. Conducts home visits, when necessary, to ensure that child and family needs are met. Ensures the desired mental health environment is maintained in the classroom. Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Maintains all required written documentation, including but not limited to, classroom operations and staff performance. Compiles necessary statistical data and completes all necessary and required reports. Completes computer data entry using program specific software. Ensures compliance and monitoring of the Head Start Act, Head Start Performance Standards and Licensing Regulations. Monitors and oversees all State of Michigan licensing requirements, including all inspections, i.e. fire, environmental, lead (if applicable) and Corrective Action Plans. Ensures education services are integrated with all other service areas. May participate in the interviewing and selection of Head Start classroom staff. Operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties. QUALIFICATIONS Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education/Development or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
  • Four (4) years of early childhood classroom experience
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education/Development or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years of management/supervisory experience
  • CLASS Observer certification (Pre-K)
  • Working with infants, toddlers and/or pre-school age children
  • Working in a Head Start program.
Required Licensure or Certification
  • A valid Michigan driver's license and operable insured automobile for authorized travel

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifts, moves, carries and push/pulls objects, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently remains in a seated position and stands while performing tasks. Manual dexterity and regular fine-finger and hand/wrist motions are required for operating a keyboard, writing and filing. Balancing on surfaces, bending, reaching and walking are occasionally required. Frequently operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties. Seeing/vision, talking/speaking and listening/hearing are continuously required.
