Join Howard University and thrive with us! BASIC FUNCTION: The Program Coordinator for Fellowship Communication provides oversight of communication planning and implementation for the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs and the Fellowship Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Fellowship Program. This includes supporting recruiting and outreach activities, developing social media and promotional materials, and communicating with fellows and alumni to develop videos and profiles that highlight the program. The incumbent would report to the Pickering Program Deputy Director with regular communication with the Rangel Deputy Director. The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program and Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Program are the premier U.S. Department of State programs created to attract diverse talent to its Foreign Service. The Programs seek individuals committed to promoting positive change in the world as U.S. diplomats for the Foreign Service and select Graduate Fellows through a rigorous nationwide competition and supports them through two years of graduate school, internships, and entry into the U.S. Foreign Service. SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTBILITY: Has responsibility to the direction of student or temporary workers. NATURE AND SCOPE: Internal contacts include staff and fellows. External contacts include government agencies, sponsor representatives, vendors, visitors, officials and the general public. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Assisting in the recruitment of applicants for the Graduate Fellowship by drafting and producing promotional material; distributing information through mail-outs, press releases, and e-mail contacts; planning and participating in information sessions, including some travel; updating the website; maintaining logs of potential applicants; and doing other tasks as needed.
  • Assuming responsibility for maintaining the Pickering Program website, including updating information and serving as a liaison with the website operators to deal with any problems with online applications or other issues, revising the online applications or other website content or design, scheduling Webinars, and dealing with billing, contracts and other issues.
  • Overseeing the planning, implementing, managing, and monitoring of both Pickering and Rangel Programs' social media strategy including developing content, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement.
  • Assisting in public outreach and recruitment efforts for the Rangel and Pickering Programs, including through writing and distributing press releases. Tracks and reports analytics on marketing and communications campaigns and coordinating promotional events.
  • Communicates with fellows and alumni to develop videos and profiles that highlight the Rangel and Pickering Fellowship Programs.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Program, including compiling lists of regional events and activities; arranging receptions; arranging for and participating in visits to locations around Washington; confirming attendance; maintaining files of information related to the participants; and doing other tasks as needed.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Highly proficient in generating reports from data collected via Google, Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and/or other data collection systems.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize, multi-task, follow-through, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write correspondence, reports, guidelines, and instructions.
  • Familiar with email communications, marketing software, and website management platforms.
  • Ability to develop action plans in resolving and implementing organizational and operational problem goals.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize projects and activities in an office setting. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Documented success as an innovator and creative problem solver.
  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, and establish and maintain effective work relations with faculty, staff, students, and general public.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high-level of confidentiality.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years of related work experience. 8 years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational qualifications Compliance Salary Range Disclosure Expected Pay Range: $52,727 - $58,000
