Job Type Full-time Description About Us Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a fast-paced, community-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to fostering the integration of the low-income, Pan-Asian immigrant and refugee community into the United States. Established in 1981, CMAA has been a cornerstone of the Uptown community, providing programming for generations of low-income youth, adults, and senior citizens. We offer direct services, including afterschool & youth mentorship programming, job training & placement, elder care services, and social services such as citizenship & housing services. Job Description Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is seeking a mission-driven Program Coordinator of Adult Literacy to support its Adult Education programming. The Coordinator will lead the coordination of on-site English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, Healthcare Literacy Bridge, and additional relevant initiatives and support services by leading instructor and transitions teams in student retention efforts, organizing student intake processes and class scheduling, supporting data reviews and funder reporting efforts, and coaching team members on program expectations. This person will demonstrate skills in project management, administrative reporting, effective coaching and team management practices, cross-cultural communication, and commitment to working with immigrant and refugee populations. Requirements Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesLeadership

  • Coordinate with Adult Education staff on class schedules, student placements, operational needs, laptop maintenance, and registration processes for class terms
  • Lead student retention efforts in collaboration with Instructors, the Transitions Coordinator
  • Support in transitioning students into post-secondary education and/or employment
  • Conduct team meetings and regular check-ins to provide program updates, inform team members on program progress, and delegate tasks related to student engagement and retention efforts
  • Monitor student attendance and performance through the review of relevant spreadsheets and databases
  • Maintain accurate student records and utilize spreadsheets and databases to provide updates on program progress
  • Mentor new hires, instructors, interns
Outreach and Recruitment
  • Develop and implement an outreach and recruitment plan to engage prospective students
  • Represent CMAA's Adult Education program at Area Planning Council Meetings, the local one-stop center, and community events
Advocacy and Program Growth
  • Assist with grant application and reporting efforts in collaboration with the Adult Education management team as needed
  • Advocate on behalf of Adult Education students and instructors
  • Work with the Adult Education/Workforce Development team to identify and pursue opportunities for program growth
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 1 to 3 years experience in education and/or at a Nonprofit or Community-Based Organization with a strong preference in Adult Education and ESL in particular
  • Proficiency with Google platforms, Microsoft Office, and LMSs
  • Demonstrated experience working with teams in a leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, the ability to keep concise and accurate records
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as a team member, cooperating with and demonstrating cultural sensitivity to staff and constituents
  • Fluency in a second language is a plus but not required
Work Environment
  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
  • This is a largely sedentary role, however, some filing is required. This could require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
