Job Title: Program Coordinator, Wildland Fire AcademyReports to: Program Manager, Wildland Fire AcademyStatus: FT, ExemptSalary: $50,000-$53,000Location: Sacramento, CA (within 70 miles) Position SummaryThe Student Conservation Association implementing a Wildland Fire Academy Program in partnership with the US Forest Service. The Program Coordinator will help with the administrative and logistical tasks of executing program in their corresponding cities/state/area. The Program Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring the logistical and administrative task lists associated with the safe, complete and accurate execution of USFS Wildland Fire Academy programs in their portfolio are completed in a timely manner. This person helps ensures Team Leaders are equipped for the program delivery work scheduled, comply with curriculum and any applicable AmeriCorps mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping and administrative requirements. This position reports to the USFS Wildland Fire Academy Program Manager for Crew and Corps programs.This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of USFS Wildland Fire Academy programming. Roles and Responsibilities Program Planning & Delivery:Help monitor leaders' project delivery to ensure compliance with administrative, AmeriCorps and other curriculum checklists;Plan and organize project logistics prior to program;Support field-based programming by organizing, maintainingPrepare vehicles for programs to use, cleaning and taking in for routine maintenance;Work with USFS Wildland Fire Academy Program Manager to review execution plan and ensure necessary preparations and monitoring plans are completedReport, track and respond to incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures.Assist SCA's Training Department with member and leader trainingResponsible for modeling, facilitating, and building an inclusive community Program Improvements:Share on-the-ground learnings with USFS Wildland Fire Academy Program Manager and other Crew and Corps programs.Conduct program reviews by administering and reviewing surveys, conducting field site visits, and soliciting feedback from partners on program effectiveness. External Engagement:Represent USFS Wildland Fire Academy Program at SCA and other events;Assist the USFS Wildland Fire Academy program team and Partnership staff to build relationships with community organizations and land partners on a local level.Work, in collaboration with SCA's Advancement/Events team and SCA's Alumni Director to engage the community and alumni in creative ways.Recruiting & Onboarding:Assist with orientation of Crew Leaders and Project Leaders to prepare them for the teams work ahead of them;Provide leaders and members with necessary supplies and other logistical requirements;Responsible for assisting HR as requested with the in-person onboarding requirements of crew leaders;Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, and enrollment of leaders and members. Internal SCA Engagement:Liaise with HR and Recruitment teams' representatives for crew member and member recruiting and onboarding processes;Responsible for keeping abreast of internal policies and procedures and any AmeriCorps requirements, such as but not only weekly time-keeping logs, narrative reporting for funders, and other SCA mandates and ensuring Team Leaders' timely and accurate compliance.Support SCA Leader and Corps Member Training Programs.Assist Manager of Crew and Corps programs in the management of the Western Program Vehicle Fleet and Warehouse (currently located in Hayward, CA)Alumni Engagement:Build and maintain relationships with Crew and Corps Program alumni as directed;Support SCA's efforts as requested in connecting Crew and Corps program alumni to member continuum as directed. QualificationsProject management experience in a collaborative environmentStrong communication skills when working with various external and internal partnersStrong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detailAbility to work independently and problem solveExperience working in Wildland Fire at any level (Engine, Hand Crew, Hot Shot, Crew Boss, etc)S-212 chainsaw training or comparable training and experience preferred.Experience working with youth from racially and socioeconomically diverse backgroundsEnjoy working with young people in a fluid, dynamic organizationBasic First Aid and Adult CPR certifications or ability to obtain before start dateExperience working in conservation and strong technical outdoor skills (experience as a Crew Leader is a plus)Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capability.Emotional maturity.Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Attend required and/or pertinent training as neededGuard School - Training towards getting a Red CardAttend refresher or full S-130,190 and S-212 coursesAbility to pass the Work Capacity Test (Arduous) Education and ExperienceAssociates or Bachelors in a related field preferred2-5 years' experience working in a related fieldProven ability to multi-task and trouble shoot in a fast paced environmentAttention to detail and follow through on administrative tasksTravel RequirementsMust possess a valid driver's license and have a Motor Vehicle Record that meets SCA standards.Excellent driving record and ability to drive in a variety of conditions including city driving and/or use of four-wheel drive as well as standard transmission as needed.The ability to travel (up to 50% of the year) for extended periods of time outside and over a variety of terrain
