Job Description:
The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Afterschool Counselors for our B3 Afterschool Program. The B3 Afterschool Program is a grant-funded program serving students attending 6th through 9th grades at 3 sites within Perth Amboy, NJ and is funded by the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Program. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. The Y is dedicated to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities through programs that develop the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. We devotedly serve over 6,000 community participants and families in our community building initiatives.Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Afterschool Counselor provides direct supervision of a group of children in the middle school program. The Afterschool Counselor plans and implements activities that are age appropriate; and developmentally appropriate; while providing a safe and conducive environment for children to interact and engage in. Hours: Part Time Monday thru Friday; 2:40pm to 5:40pm.Essential Duties Include:
  • Provide supervision to assigned group of program participants.
  • Develop and implement appropriate and engaging activities.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attend staff trainings and staff meetings

  • Minimum 60 college credits from an accredited college or university in child development, psychology, sociology, education, recreation, or related field preferred.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills; written; and verbal.
  • Two to four years' experience Teaching/Instructing in a specialty program area (i.e. sports, the arts, dance, STEM) preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), a plus.
  • Flexible working at different sites (as needed).
  • Previous experience working with adolescents preferred.
