Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) envisions a world where children are safe, families are strong and communities are vibrant.LSF is looking for a talented Registered Dietitian who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.Purpose & Impact:Works as a Registered Dietitian in a multi-program support capacity throughout the State of Florida to plan, implement, coordinate, and monitor Head Start nutrition services and food service programs and activities. Ensures compliance with HS Performance Standards, USDA Child Care Food Program, and HS/EHS goals and objectives. Coordinates assigned activities with other Head Start service areas and with outside agencies and provides highly responsible and complex professional support to the HS/EHS Programs. Participates in the HS/EHS Quality Assurance efforts. Essential Functions: Implement all requirements regarding nutritional services, including but not limited to: Head Start Performance Standards, CCFP guidelines, and state and local licensing regulations. Support the program's facilitation of children's nutrition status and care through on-going tracking and monitoring, including of electronic reports, file reviews, site visits, and ensure compliance with plans, systems, and reports.Evaluate the needs of children as it pertains to nutrition, including the needs of children with special dietary needs and accommodations, and provide appropriate nutrition consultation and follow-up. Work in collaboration with families and program staff to ensure dietary modifications are accommodated for children with a nutritional concern based on a medical diagnosis and/or a disability, or religious/cultural preference. Assess the need for and obtain adaptive eating utensils or other supplies. Develop or identify a nutrition screening instrument to assess child and family nutritional status. Train staff in the administration and interpretation of the screening instrument. Follow-up on screenings indicating nutritional risk and internal referrals for nutrition-related issues and provide support, resources, consultation, and nutrition education to families.Prepare, review, and/or approve menus to assure compliance with Child Care Food Program and Head Start nutrition guidelines andMake available nutritional education resources for children, parents, and staff. Develop an effective communication system regarding distribution of this Coordinate and deliver trainings and technical assistance to staff in child nutrition, USDA CCFP, and food safety and sanitation.Participate in the Head Start Health Advisory Committee and report on the program's nutritional services, as needed. Work in collaboration with the Director of Nutrition Services to develop and implement a monitoring/ tracking system that supports the oversight of nutrition s Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. Reasonable accommodation may be made for otherwise qualified persons with disabilities.Minimum Qualification Requirements: Education: BA/BS Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Home Economics, Health Services Management or closely related field. Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or current active State of Florida Department of Health Dietitian/ Nutritionist license. Master's Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or closely related field preferred. Experience: Two years increasingly responsible experience in nutrition services. Head Start experience preferred. Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area. Also required: Certification in First Aid and CPR within six months of the date assigned to this position; and successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check and drug screening prior to hiring. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of dietetics or nutrition in a community-based setting; nutritional resources andKnowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performanceKnowledge of computers and information management systems; budget preparation andAbility to communicate nutritional health related information in a manner easily understood by parents; work with diverse community, student, and staffAbility to establish, develop and maintain communityAbility to establish and maintain a record keepingAbility to communicate orally and in writing using correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
