For more information on our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Council, please click on the . SUMMARY OF POSITION: Develop and teach a variety of courses in the occupational therapy assistant program. Duties include coordination of department activities such as curriculum development, monitoring budgets, and course scheduling. Other duties include ACOTE and regional accreditation reporting, advising, and the support of students, and coordination with the OT community. This position includes release time to function as the coordinator of the program and is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, accreditation, administration, review, planning, and development. This position reports to the Dean of Health Sciences. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan and teach a variety of program courses appropriate to the occupational therapy assistant program goals; develop and assess curriculum
  • Responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and effectiveness of the occupational therapy assistant program and program materials
  • Generate appropriate reports to maintain ACOTE accreditation
  • Advise students on educational and career planning; facilitate student learning through traditional activities and various alternative teaching/learning methods; identify course and program learning outcomes
  • Teach productive and constructive work habits, study skills, and core skills as identified by the college; develop and incorporate instructional methods that support best learning practices; develop and teach curriculum that supports the college's global outcomes, cultural diversity, and non-discrimination; model the communications, teamwork, and critical thinking skills needed for employment in occupational therapy assistant field; design learning experiences for a variety of learning styles
  • Develop and maintain classroom and lab procedures, including safety, that follow local, state and federal policies and procedures; share responsibility for educational facilities and equipment
  • Use current college learning management and data reporting systems
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, including but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials that support the instructional process; evaluate student progress, maintain appropriate records, and provide clear, timely feedback; deal consistently and fairly with all students
  • Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in assigned teaching field and technical field
  • Develop and maintain industry and community support for occupational therapy programs; attend advisory committee meetings and maintain contact with industry for job placement and follow-up opportunities
  • Be familiar with and advance the college's mission, vision, and goals and how they relate to academic and technical programs; follow college, local, state and federal policies and procedures; attend department and college meetings as appropriate
  • Work with college counselors, special needs faculty, and other faculty to identify and incorporate general education learning needs for technical students
  • Other duties as assigned
In addition, full-time faculty will also:
  • Maintain regular office hours; perform advising, recruiting and retention activities
  • Take part in college accreditation, program review and college committees as specified in the faculty bargained agreement
  • May receive, as approved, release time to work on professional growth activities, either after two years of full-time continuous service, or for the tenure review process
  • Perform other related professional activities as assigned by the dean
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related field required
  • Five or more years clinical work experience as an OT or OTA including clinical teaching; two years teaching in an accredited OT or OTA program preferred
  • Current license to practice as an OT or OTA in WA State or ability to attain same within 30 days of initial employment
  • Experience and expertise in physical disabilities, brain injury rehabilitation, orthopedic conditions, functional movement and kinesiology, adapted technology, and therapeutic activities preferred
  • Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association; AOTA clinical instructor credential preferred
  • Knowledge of OTA accreditation guidelines; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues that affect clinical education, students and the OT profession
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a professional-technical certificate to teach in the technical area; valid First Aid certificate required
  • Educational experience that includes teaching, educational theory and methodology, instructional design and methodology, student evaluation and outcomes assessment, and knowledge of contemporary curricular content for OT education
  • Experience in administration, academic governance, fiscal management, and human resource management
  • Service on behalf of occupational therapy education, the community, and/or the profession
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with diverse populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to function as an effective team member
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs preferred

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONCompensation & Work Schedule This position is for the 2024-2025 Academic year and begins September 2024. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $78,347-$96,334 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Release time is provided quarterly to complete all responsibilities related to managing the program to meet accreditation requirements. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position with the possibility of converting to tenure track.
