About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco's homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team: The Childcare Support Services (CCSS) team empowers families through access to high-quality childcare. Case managers work with hundreds of families to find and keep childcare that enables both kids and parents to thrive. The team also provides long term case management to families to ensure stability and success.

Salary range: $78,000 - $84,000

Location: 37 Grove St., SF (less than a block from Civic Center BART/MUNI). Fully in-person for the first three months, then option to work one day per week remotely

Schedule: Mon – Fri, primarily during standard business hours

Description:The Program Director oversees all aspects of case management services, including supervision of staff, administrative and program design and implementation, data reporting, and providing direct support to clients.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct supervision to program staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, professional development, and ongoing oversight and support.
  • Design and implement program policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with funders and service providers for policy and program changes.
  • Outreach and engage with childcare providers and community partners.
  • Be available for crisis intervention, case consultation and intervention with client situations.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to construct annual budgets and oversee the implementation of the budget.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports.
  • Represent the agency to the community, outside agencies, service provider groups, committees and funders.

The Program Director should have these skills:

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in childcare or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory experience managing a small team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.
  • Understanding of trauma informed care and experience working with people in crisis.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to inspire and lead a committed team.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and Zoom. Salesforce and Asana experience is a plus.
  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $78,000 - $84,000 depending on experience.
  • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-5.

Location and Covid safety:

  • Work location: 37 Grove St. Fully on-site for the first three months, then option to work remotely one day per week afterwards.
  • Covid vaccination required for all staff.
