About the Position

Lidu Academy, a new Assyrian academy located in a brand-new, state-of-the-art building in Lincolnwood, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Teacher and Program Leader. This role combines administrative oversight with active involvement in teaching and nurturing young children. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with DCFS regulations, foster a safe and enriching environment, and lead a team of educators to deliver exceptional care and education to children. A key component of the curriculum includes teaching the Assyrian language, and the ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about integrating cultural education into the classroom. In addition to these responsibilities, the Head Teacher and Program Leader will be instrumental in training and mentoring team members, promoting professional development, and ensuring that all staff adhere to the highest educational and ethical standards. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, and a strong team player, with a willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment. You do not have to be Assyrian to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Oversight:
  • Ensure compliance with all DCFS regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain a safe and productive environment.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, including budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and record-keeping.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians regarding inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
  • Educational Leadership:
  • Design and oversee developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that promote learning and social-emotional development.
  • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of teaching methods and curriculum effectiveness.
  • Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for teaching staff.
  • Lead, nurture, and guide new educators as they go through their training.
  • Child Care and Teaching:
  • Actively engage in teaching and caring for children during designated hours.
  • Ensure classrooms are well-maintained, organized, and conducive to learning.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where each child feels valued and supported.
  • Staff Management and Development:
  • Recruit, hire, and train qualified teaching staff according to DCFS guidelines.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes open communication, mutual respect, and a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Help with new teacher training and setting up classrooms, including the initial setup of Montessori materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a licensed day care center setting; 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Meet the educational requirements specified by DCFS:
  • Associate degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (or equivalent as defined by DCFS).
  • Completion of required DCFS training programs and certifications (e.g., Lead Safety Training, Mandated Reporter Training).
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and a team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to learn and collaborate.

Required Skills

  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to pass background checks and screenings as required by state regulations.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for children.

  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Operate office equipment (copier, fax, scanner, phone, computer)
  • Extended periods of time on the phone, typing, and reading on a computer screen
