Program Director, Sports Management Salary: $70,000.00/yearI. Position PurposeUnder the guidance and direction of the Dean, the Program Manager of Sports Managementand Fitness Management manages and leads enrollment, course design, and development.Teaches classes each semester ofthe year; leads program review and accreditation efforts;and supervises full time and adjunct faculty assigned to teach courses within their purview. Thisprogram is responsible for creating and implementing a youth recreation/sports program inNelsonville. Additionally, this program willplan and implement summer youth camps to provideinternship experiences for students.II. Duties and Responsibilities• PARTICIPATES IN DEPARTMENT ACTVITIES:o Provides effective day-to-day management and administration of the programs.o Supervises faculty.o In cooperation with the Dean, manages curriculum, creates course schedules,assists with faculty and student issues, coordinates professional development forfaculty, coordinates adjunct assignments, completes adjunct faculty evaluationsand participates in other special projects.o Responsible coaching duties as assignedo Develops career pathways/tracks for the program.o Assures that College policies are communicated and followed.o Participates in grant development and manages aspects of grant funding asneeded.o Manages external accreditation of the program.o Serves on committees as assigned by the Dean.o Develops transfer pathways to Bachelor's degree programs.o Coaches Women's Basketball Team.• PERFORMS STUDENT ACADEMIC PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & ADVISINGACTIVITIESo Maintains required credit hours of teaching load per term.o Leads the recruitment and placement of students and student-athletes.o Responsible for final approval of textbook selection and in alignment with all-inclusive pricing model.o Supervises faculty advisors to assure full implementation of advising roleexpectations.o Works with students and faculty to resolve conflicts and serve as the second stepin grade appeals.o Encouraging students' involvement in the advising process; Maintains sufficientadvising hours compatible with student schedules; meets with advisees at leasttwice per semester and as often as needed; advises student having difficulty inclass / clinical work; maintains appropriate advisee files; directs students toappropriate department and College resources; maintains confidentiality;periodically evaluates graduation progress and completions.o Supervises faculty advising efforts.o Duties also include managing student files, including processing of applications,documenting, using spreadsheets (such as Excel), and databases (such asColleague, Self Service and Blackboard). Keeps track of student progress incross disciplines and updating student records. This will involve working closelywith many different offices throughout the College, Student Affairs, Financial Aid,etc.o Reviews graduation applications prior to final approval by the Dean.o Coordinates with CCP Liaison for site visits for College Credit Pluso Acts as the lead for practicum sites for the Sports Management program.o Reviews faculty evaluations with Dean and faculty to address any concerns.o Assists in the college marketing department in developing materials about theprogram (e.g., publications, e-book, web page, and annual report).o Represents the program to students, prospective students and other interestedparties.o Facilitates advisory committee involvement for the program.o Works with Tech Prep coordinator to develop articulation agreements withCareer Technical and traditional secondary schools.o Represents program(s) at recruiting events, on and off campus.o Collaborates and provides programming for career/program exploration camps.o Participates in program relevant community & networking events.• PARTICIPATES IN ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND INSTITUTIONAL ACTIVITIES:o Embraces the mission and philosophy of Hocking College;o Follows Hocking College policies and procedures;o Promotes a positive working relationship across technology, department, andcommunity lines;o Participates in Academic Affairs and institutional activities and committees asdirected by the Dean;o Participates in student enrollment activities (recruiting and registration),contribute to the assessment of student academic achievement;• PARTICIPATE IN CREATING TRANSFERABLE PARTNERSHIPS:o Develop Articulation agreements with a minimum of six colleges in a 2+2 or 3+1transfer agreement. Form partnerships with four-year schools and continuouslyimproves curriculum to aid those partnerships. Create pathways with highschools and career centers in collaboration with the career center for Bachelor'sDegree completion.• At all times maintain a safe working area and conditions.• Perform other job related duties as assigned.III. Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills• A master's degree in Sports Management or a master's degree and a cohesive set of atleast 18 semester credit hours of graduate coursework relevant to the discipline asdefined by Ohio Board of Regents'/Higher Learning Commission guidelines. Degreemust be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S.Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation orequivalent as verified by a member of the National Association of Credential EvaluationServices, Inc.• 3-5 years of teaching and/or management experience• Evidence of professional development in the field of concentration as demonstrated byactivity in professional associations, consultative practice; participation in seminars,workshops, and formal coursework, and individual reading and research.• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).• Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, andlearning management system• Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.• Knowledge of subject area.• Knowledge of educational theory and application.• Knowledge of learners and individual learning styles.• Interest in and commitment to the learner-centered educational process.• Educational technology skills.• Confidentiality.• Caring attitude toward students.• Learning and self-motivation skills.• Willingness to extend self to help students succeed.• Knowledge of College resources available to students.• Knowledge of organizational structure.• Current knowledge of programs, objectives, and requirements.• Openness to suggestions for improvement.• Attention to detail.• Flexibility in dealing with others.• Ability to work as a team member.• Ability to prioritize work.• Behaves in accordance with Hocking College and Academic Affairs mission, goals, andvalues.• Positive attitude.• Knowledge of safe working conditions.Reasonable accommodations may be requested and reviewed according to the Americans withDisabilities Act (ADA).
