Support and assist supervisor in running a controlled and organized activity for participants and parents. Under the direct supervision of the Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor, specialist is responsible for working directly with children. They play an integral role in the development of building strong character values in youth. The staff must represent the philosophy, mission, and goal of the City of McHenry and its parks and recreation department. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation department. Job Duties DECISION MAKING AND JUDGEMENT
Responsible for providing diverse program experiences for assigned groupDeveloping programs that are age-appropriateBe responsible for maintaining order and discipline within programMarket programs to other departments & community organizations where youth are presentKeep program within budget through program development and participant retention Be prepared to discuss with a parent any experience a child has during programSupervise volunteers while they are working, assist other staff, and follow/enforce policies set forth by supervisor ADMINISTRATIVE
Will be at your program area and set up 15 minutes prior to start of scheduled activitiesPrepare and administer weekly practices and program communicationsBe present at required team games and program activitiesHelp develop group schedules and implement new games/activitiesBe available for staff meetings, planning periods, and trainings as scheduledKeep program areas clean, neat, and organized to optimize customer satisfactionMaintain inventories and report any equipment problems or needs to the Athletics & Aquatics SupervisorReport any incidents to the Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor and fill out any necessary paperwork within 24 hours of incidentOverall responsibility for maintaining all recordsSubmit attendance rosters, timesheets, and evaluations to Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor within 1 week of program ending. Responsible for youth ages 2-17 at your program area and will be responsible for overall athlete well-being while in the care of the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation departmentKeep accurate count of children in program at all timesResponsible for selecting, instructing, directing, and supervising the flow of work PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Fill in at various positions when there are personnel shortages, vacations, or special projectsOther related duties as assigned and perform all duties in a respectful and responsible mannerMaintains all necessary recordsAdheres to all policies and procedures Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be an example of good moral behavior
- Must have previous experience and knowledge with similar program and large/small group activities
- Supervise and facilitate youth programming/sports activities to youth ages 2-17
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification current or obtained as soon as possible
- Desire to work with children and parents daily
- Required at least 3 months working and/or volunteering with children ages 2-17
- Prefer one or more years of previous basketball experience through league, coaching, or officiating
- Willingness to project the City of McHenry image by personal adherence to all policies
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret and administer all policies, established by the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation department, to all employees and volunteers you may encounter
