Program: El Mercadito/Arcoiris
Reports to: Director of Community Services Programs
Compensation: $70,000-75,000. Full-time Exempt. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending account, commuter benefits, paid holiday, paid sick leave, generous vacation with Summer Recess and Winter Recess, and 401(K) with employer matching.

Mission Action is dedicated to advancing food justice and equity in our community through innovative programs and initiatives. Our signature projects, El Mercadito and Arcoiris, aim to empower local residents by providing access to healthy, culturally relevant food while fostering economic development and community resilience.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Program Manager to lead our food justice initiatives, El Mercadito and Arcoiris. The ideal candidate will be committed to social justice, community engagement, and sustainability, with a background in program management and a deep understanding of food justice issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of El Mercadito and Arcoiris programs, ensuring alignment with community needs and organizational goals.
- With the Director of Community Services, manage food ordering and inventory for El Mercadito, coordinating with local suppliers and distributors to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Supervise the setup and operation of food lines during community events, ensuring smooth service and adherence to health and safety standards.
- Food Line Management:
- Train and oversee volunteers and staff in food line operations, including customer service, food distribution, and sanitation practices.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the customer experience during food distribution events, ensuring efficiency and accessibility.
- Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, local organizations, and partners.
- Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community meetings to promote food justice awareness and engagement.
- Lead outreach efforts to ensure diverse community participation.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise program staff and volunteers, providing mentorship and support.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that prioritizes equity and respect.
- Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Using established metrics, evaluate program success and regularly assess program impact.
- Prepare and present reports to stakeholders, funders, and the community.
- Advocacy & Policy:
- Advocate for policies and practices that support food justice at the local and regional levels.
- Stay informed about food systems, agricultural policies, and community needs to inform program strategies.
- Other Organizational Duties:
- Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community.
- Commit yourself to treating each community member with respect and dignity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Community Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Experience: Over 3 years of experience in program management, ideally focused on food justice or community development.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of food systems, public health, and social justice issues.
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Communication and Engagement: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage diverse populations effectively.
- Data Proficiency: Proficient in data analysis and reporting tools; experience in grant writing is a plus.
- Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish REQUIRED.
