Reporting to the Director of the Ujima Living-Learning Community, the position will support and empower students within the Ujima LLC and underrepresented students as assigned by the Student Opportunities and Achievement Resources (SOAR) program. The program manager will focus on academic and success coaching, program management support, and community engagement. The Ujima Living-Learning Community (LLC) provides residents with resources and a support system. Located in Peddrew-Yates Hall, Ujima focuses on cultural enrichment and academic excellence for students of all backgrounds to partake in programming and dialogue about Black identity, culture, and history. This program offers students academic support and access to campus resources designed to help them succeed, networking opportunities and engagement with Black faculty and staff, cultural excursions and field trips to further explore identity, and connections to other resources that emphasize Black culture such as clubs, organizations, and leadership opportunities on campus. The Student Opportunities and Achievement Resources (SOAR) program is a holistic support program dedicated to welcoming and retaining underrepresented minority students at Virginia Tech and promoting their success through campus collaborations. SOAR provides academic counseling with the colleges, holistic support, resource engagement, and opportunities to connect with other students, groups, and organizations. The program manager will engage with residents of the Ujima LLC and assigned SOAR students through academic support, success coaching, and holistic resources. The position will also support program management and community engagement. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study Demonstrated ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment Strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate and collaborate effectively with a broad range of constituencies including students, families, staff, and faculty Experience working with collaboration tools such as SharePoint or Microsoft Office 365 Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously Demonstrated time management skills Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in relevant field of study or comparable years of experience Prior experience working in a living-learning community for students interested in the underrepresented minority student experience Familiarity with available campus and community resources and experience assisting students navigating these resources Working knowledge of student development theory, social justice training, and diversity education Appointment Type Regular Salary Information 60,000 Review Date August 19, 2024 Additional Information The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
