The School of Human Resources & Labor Relations at Michigan State University seeks an experienced and dynamic professional to join our team as an On-Call Instructor for our Outreach and Professional Development Unit. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about employment law, labor law, worker protections, and the evolving landscape of labor relations. Our School is committed to equipping students and working professionals with both foundational knowledge and adaptive skills to navigate contemporary labor challenges.About the Role:As an On-Call Instructor, you will leverage your extensive experience in labor relations, employment and/or labor law, and advocacy to teach students and working professionals through virtual and in-person settings. In this flexible, on-call position, you will deliver courses in areas such as Traditional Labor Relations, Public and Private Sector Employment Law, Worker Rights and Protections, and the Role of Technology in the Workplace. Courses may also cover modern challenges in labor relations, including employer use of artificial intelligence, employee surveillance, and the increasing importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within labor organizations.Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver high-quality, engaging professional development courses on topics relevant to employment and/or labor law and labor relations.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and practical skill-building.
  • Ensure that course content reflects contemporary changes in the labor landscape, including new technologies, economic shifts, and evolving labor and employment laws.
  • Collaborate with MSU's faculty and staff to continually improve and innovate program content.

    • Juris Doctor
    • Significant professional experience in labor relations such as work with public and private sector unions, labor relations in management settings, and/or employee protection agencies.
    • Experience teaching or training, ideally in higher education or public sector settings.
    • Strong familiarity with employment and/or labor laws, labor rights, and the current challenges facing workers and employers.
    • Ability to demonstrate potential or past contributions to advancing diversity, and inclusion and the ability to incorporate DEI concepts into course content.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in labor relations, labor or employment law, or a related field.
  • Background in developing training programs or academic curricula, particularly in employment and/or labor law or labor relations.
  • Experience with online teaching and remote training platforms.
