DescriptionSummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to implement, coordinate, maintain and evaluate cognitive services for the Finney County Department of Corrections. Duties include establishing, coordinating, and co-facilitating cognitive classes. This position focuses on those offenders identified as needing specialized services, in accordance with current criteria established by the agency and KDOC standards. This position is responsible for providing recidivism/risk-reducing skills-building programs to clients under supervision with the Finney County Department of Corrections or an adult that has been touched by the court. This position is under direct supervision of the Director of the Department of Corrections and/or his/her designee.Definition and Examples of Work80%Establish, coordinate, and facilitate cognitive programming and classes; complete all required documentation
  • Establish, coordinate, and facilitate cognitive programming and classes based on the risk level of targeted clients; this includes all scheduling, monitoring, establishment of referral process, and other administrative aspects. Cognitive programs will adhere to the curriculum selected by the Kansas Department of Corrections and the agency. This position is responsible for quality and content of the material delivered to client groups.
  • Coordinate services between the agency, client, and service providers.
  • Develop and maintain current and accurate information on client database(s); ensure compliancy with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Create marketing material to inform the community of services.
15%Monitor the quality and fidelity of programs and classes
  • Maintain contact with client on a scheduled basis as appropriate to their needs and status.
  • Monitor programs and classes for quality and fidelity. Responsibilities may include tracking participants who start and finish, monitoring progress to reduce failures, ensuring timely and accurate electronic data entries, providing progress reports, and facilitating in-person discussions within assigned deadlines.
5%Complete other support functions as required.
  • Assist with other department duties as required
  • Attend all meetings, trainings, workshops, and classes for continuing education.
  • Testify in court as needed.
Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.RequirementsQualifications
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Bi-lingual preferred
  • Ability to communicate information concisely and accurately so others can comprehend the information being conveyed.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and chronological records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, employees, outside agencies and people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or related software.
  • Proficient skills in interviewing and obtaining information from people.
  • Proficient skills in time management, planning, work organization, job coordination, and record keeping.
  • Ability to accurately interpret policies.
  • Ability to act as a liaison between service providers and clients.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor when working with clients.
  • Knowledge of the process of the judicial system.
  • Knowledge of utilization of community resources.
  • Knowledge of behavior including socially deviant behavior.
  • Knowledge of techniques of supervision for clients.
Certification, License, Registration
  • Cognitive programs certification upon hire
  • SAP Facilitator training - obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Ability to obtain Defensive Driving certificate
  • Valid driver's license
