Advanced placement to the Trainee 2 or journey level may be possible depending on education and experience and subject to agency approval.Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. The ideal candidate will be familiar with evidence-based interventions for justice-involved individuals.Duties Description Two Program Research Specialist 1 (Criminal Justice) positions will be assigned to the DCJS Office of Justice Research and Performance (OJRP). These positions will conduct data analysis and produce reports related to community corrections programs funded by DCJS, including adult probation, alternatives to incarceration, and/or re-entry programming. Research and analysis will be completed using a variety of data sources including probation records, program data, criminal history data, and potentially data obtained from external sources. The incumbents will assist in developing tools and procedures for assessing the implementation and fidelity of evidence-based programming delivered by community corrections programs.Additional Comments Some positions may require travel to locations that are not serviced by public transportation. DCJS has a hybrid telecommuting program.
