Title:Project Assistant (Full-Time or Part-Time)Department: AdministrationFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Housing Community OrganizerSummary: Support and assist with the overall management of the Mayor's Office of Housing & Community Development (MOHCD) Westside Affordable Housing Development Capacity Building project to increase capacity for affordable housing development. Essential Functions: Provides support with community events and outreach. Leads school-based workshops for grade school students and liaises with teachers and staff at public school sites. Staff community meetings and complete preparations for in-person events, including logistics and volunteer recruitment, training, and management. Supports and assists the Westside Affordable Housing Development Capacity Building project to ensure project and related contract goals are met, including the following: Community connections: recruit, grow, and sustain community connections by facilitating or attending meetings to support the Westside Affordable Housing Development Capacity Building project and partnerships with key organizations participating in the Westside Affordable Housing Cohort, Richmond Community Coalition, D4 Youth and Family Network, and other relevant citywide and cross-sector organizations including government agencies, housing providers, neighborhood/tenant associations, businesses/merchants' associations, and faith-based organizations. Outreach and education: develop street-smart strategies, compelling campaigns/materials, and engaging workshops in multiple languages that resonate with and motivate target audiences to acquire knowledge about affordable housing. Organize one affordable housing resource fair in either the Richmond or Sunset Districts that is free, open to the public, and serves a broad audience, including tenants, homeowners, and unhoused neighbors. The fair will include resources, counseling, workshops, games, and activities for younger residents. Strategic planning: synthesize available data to create an implementation strategy for the Westside. Refines the recommendations made through a community process, including an online and print survey in multiple languages to get input by obtaining over 1,000 responses from Richmond and Sunset stakeholders. Develop a plan of actionable and measurable items that engages their target population, local community partners, homeowners, and the small business community. Impact and evaluation: work closely with and support the consultant to evaluate outcomes and impacts relating specifically to capacity building, community engagement, and affordable housing, resulting in a needs assessment and plan to increase affordable housing opportunities in the Westside. Assists with coordinating the participation of community members/leaders in Local, State, and Federal housing campaigns. Assists in preparing and submitting reports to current housing funders, tracks project data, grant development, and other ad-hoc reports, as needed. Represents the project as required and attends meetings. Provides direct services to residents, including answering calls, conducting intake, making referrals, filling housing applications and related forms, and making inquiries such as to the MOHCD, if needed. Provides data input for various reporting requests and needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Associate's degree or equivalent experience in human services or related field; must have prior experience working with diverse community members and compassion and concern for underprivileged groups. Strong interpersonal skills and capable of engaging everyone from marginalized groups to elected officials. Must be available to work on evenings and weekends, as needed. Good organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual in English and Chinese or Spanish preferred. Able to translate documents into Chinese or Spanish language. Able to provide real-time verbal translation from English to Chinese or Spanish. Proficient in MS Office and the Internet. Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal vehicle for performance of job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
