Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA) Project Associate to join our Inclusive STEMM Ecosystems for Equity & Diversity (ISEED) department!

The Project Associate will support the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA) initiative. The SOA is a national initiative, led by AAAS, seeking to create an equitable and inclusive STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) ecosystem to reach parity in STEMM by 2050. AAAS serves as the backbone organization of the SOA, offering coordination, amplification, and strategic alignment across an alliance of over 250 organizations to implement the National Strategy for STEMM Equity and Excellence.

What You'll Do

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Scheduling, contact management, action item tracking, meeting planning, and other administrative tasks for the SOA Director.
  • Schedule, design, and track actions from SOA team meetings, Advisory Council meetings, Anchor Partner calls, SOA events, etc.
  • Manage the SOA e-mail inbox, responding to and forwarding messages as appropriate.

Project Management and Contributions

  • Support project management, e.g. coordinate an annual project calendar, tracking team assignments, and ensuring that activities and deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage team workflows in Asana.
  • Support budget tracking; review and process invoices and travel reimbursements.
  • Contribute to discussions of goals, objectives, and strategies.

SOA Partner Coordination and Communication

  • Track and coordinate new partner recruitment and onboarding.
  • Facilitate making connections among Partners.
  • Support coordination and scheduling of Partner activities across workstreams.
  • Support facilitation of online discussions among Partners.
  • Support the design and logistics for in-person and virtual events.
  • Support the Communications lead with the online community of practice.
  • Draft correspondence and agendas with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and edit newsletters, social media accounts, and blog series.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience providing administrative support at the senior management level, including supporting multi-year, complex projects with multiple priorities, partners, and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior leadership professionally and dependably.
  • Passion for equity and excellence in STEMM.
  • Interest or experience working with cross-sector partners (e.g., education, workforce, government), community building, and strategies to cultivate shared goals, metrics, and bold collaborations.
  • Experience with written communication to external stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Knowledge of contemporary software packages and online platforms.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills, attention to detail, and superb organizational abilities.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance, each subject to the terms of the applicable program.
