Job Description:

The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a part-time Project Associate to support a project focused on supporting instruction in science of reading in teacher preparationprograms. The incumbent will become part of a vibrant team of faculty, students, and staff conducting research on advancing the deployment and use of materials related to the science of reading in the preparation of teachers in the U.S. The project has a specific focus on coordinating across and facilitating teacher preparation in universities that support underserved populations and states in which there are literacy improvement policies and initiatives. Remote work is an option in this position.

With this aim of coordination, implementation, and impact in mind, the project will design and implement a Higher Education Hub focuses primarily on IBIS-supported investments in higher education aimed to improve teacher preparation in the Science of Reading. The hub will facilitate engagement of public institutions that prepare the largest number of education and human service professionals in their respective state or region, and HBCUs, and will provide:

* Support for institutional leaders interested in engaging with SoR initiatives. This support will facilitate institutional plans to implement SoR reforms through curricula innovation and design; next-generation credentialing, workforce development, and preparation program impact; strategy and planning; and faculty development,

* Planning, data collection, and analytic support to conduct formative and summative evaluations of institutional SoR initiatives/programs

* Cross-institutional partnerships and collaboration related to SoR implementation and implications for improvements and reforms in other key areas of preparing teachers.

The Hub will be housed initially at the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development and directed by its former dean, Bob Pianta. Hub Staff will include a full time Program Coordinator and student interns from the UVA EHD degree program in higher education.

In coordination with the Project Director, the Hub Project Associate will be responsible for the following activities:

* An annual in-person convening that rotates across participating institutions.

* Planning and facilitation of monthly group calls among participating institutions' leadership focused on IBIS-supported initiatives (e.g., implementation of Science of Reading in teacher preparation)

* Monthly individual calls between Hib director Pianta and senior leaders at each participating institution

* Identifying, indexing, providing resources and supports for implementation of SoR efforts relevant for teacher preparation

* Assist with developing strategies and plans for program innovations, impact evaluations, etc., and development of proposals for funding collaborative initiatives across institutions.

* Creation and deployment of the Hub website

Minimum Requirements

* Education: Bachelor's degree

* Experience: Two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Skills:

* Experience in working with partners in educational systems at various levels

* Experience in interface with website developers

* Strong organizational, planning and communication skills

Anticipated Compensation Range: This is 0.5 FTE position with an anticipated range of $32,000 - $35,000 commensurate with education and experience, includes UVA benefits.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
