Summary Arcadis DPS Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Cost Controls Specialist to support large high-tech construction projects in Portland, OR. Successful candidates will come from a fast-paced environment and ideally have experience working within the Advanced Technology industry (Semiconductor, Solar, Data Center, etc.). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required. Responsibilities
  • The Project Cost Controls Specialist's main duty will be to track, monitor, and control the costs associated with one or more projects.
  • On a day-to-day basis, they are responsible for tasks such as maintaining, tracking, and updating monthly cost forecasts; reporting and providing feedback on project status; working with project teams in an effort to meet annual budgets; providing monthly earned value updates to the department in support of the monthly accrual process; and verifying invoices issued by suppliers.
  • They sometimes works as part of a larger team and sometimes operate alone.
  • The Project Cost Controls Specialist should have a strong understanding of the project life cycle and the use of earned value management to determine project status.
  • A high level of organizational skills are required in order to provide clear and transparent project information.
  • The Project Cost Controls Specialist should have a firm understanding of the use of Microsoft products, namely Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Communications skills, verbal and written, are also key for this position, as Project Cost Controllers must communicate effectively with upper management, project team members, and subordinates.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Construction Management; also, a Bachelor's degree or higher in Business or Accounting and experience working on similar large-scale construction projects.
  • Five (5) years of direct work experience in Scheduling, Cost Control and other Project Management related functions is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; Pivot tables, graphs, advanced formulas, micro's, macro's. Candidates may be asked to complete an Excel assessment. Proficiency in prevailing project controls or financial analysis software.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate good organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Although not required, additional certifications are preferable; PMI-SP, CCE, CAPM, PMP.

  • Mathematical Ability - Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability - Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
