Reporting to the Vice President, Quality and Safety Operating Systems, the Project Director, Care Operating Systems (CareOS) will plan and manage the successful delivery of projects within our new Care Operating System business line. In partnership with the VP, this role will build and expand this new line of business, driving data-driven workflows that significantly enhance patient outcomes, improve healthcare quality and safety, and redefine the patient and workforce experience. This is a full-time remote position based in the USA, with a requirement to manage projects across multiple time zones. The role involves domestic and international travel (up to 25%), which may decrease as the CareOS business line evolves.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning & Strategy Development: Develop comprehensive project management plans, including scope, schedule, and resource allocation, to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Project Execution & Monitoring: Lead the execution of project workstreams, ensuring that deliverables are met on time, within scope, and within budget. Monitor project progress, implement risk management strategies, and adjust project plans as necessary to stay on course.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and faculty. Serve as the primary communication link between project teams, IHI management, and stakeholders to ensure clear and consistent messaging.
  • Resource & Budget Management: Develop, manage, and optimize project budgets, ensuring financial goals are met. Provide regular budgetary reports to management, highlighting any variances and proposing solutions to maintain financial health.
  • Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement: Ensure the delivery of high-quality project outputs by applying robust quality management practices. Utilize improvement tools to continuously enhance project processes and outcomes.
  • Project Team Leadership: Lead project teams with the goal of fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture focused on achieving project goals.
  • Risk Management & Problem Solving: Proactively identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. Manage complex and challenging situations with a focus on maintaining project momentum and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Process Improvement & Innovation: Act as a champion for continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation within the project management framework.
  • Project Communication & Reporting: Facilitate regular project meetings, both internal and external, to review progress, discuss challenges, and align on next steps. Prepare and present detailed project reports, including status updates, financial performance, and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge Management: Oversee the management of project documentation and knowledge sharing across the organization, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are captured and disseminated.
  • Facilitation & Coordination: Plan and coordinate project activities, including in-person meetings, teleconferences, and web seminars, ensuring that all logistical details are managed effectively.
  • Customer-Focused Delivery: Ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations in terms of quality, timeliness, and impact.
  • Improvement Science and Core Methodology: Along with Improvement Advisors, teach and apply IHI's core methodology (e.g., improvement science) to accelerate customer/partner results; coach individual teams.
