Job SummaryThe Project Engineer is responsible for the technical coordination of engineering activities, managing interfaces, monitoring clients and suppliers, coordinating with internal and external specialists of the project they are assigned. This individual will guide the engineering process in addition to monitoring all phases of work beyond engineering such as procurement, manufacturing, erection, and commissioning. As the technical liaison, they will integrate safety, quality, and environmental standards as part for their work. They will be intimately involved with communications between both internal and external customers and will strive to reduce costs in all project phases to insure profitability while maintaining schedule commitments. They may also be responsible for proposal, research, and development projects and, in this context, participate in the development of innovative technical solutions that meet the needs of clients.
Key Objectives and Responsibilities:The main responsibilities of the Project Engineer are as follows:
- Acts as a technical extension of the Project Manager and Technical Project Manager coordinating the development and the exchange of information as well as technical correspondence between the customer, A/E, vendors, John Cockerill (external and internal), and various other organizations working on the Project.
- Technical project management from contract start to completion by aiming to:
- optimize technical results specified in the contract.
- adhere to project schedules, by managing both technical and commercial risks.
- manage budget and costs optimization.
- support project team, entity and Group skills by sharing experience acquired during project execution
- Maintain client contact for all technical aspects with a view to obtain complete customer satisfaction.
- Must know the contract obligations for the assignment including scope, cost, schedule, and also know scope split responsibilities of other PE's on the project.
- With the project and technical project manager coordination and plan operations entrusted to each contributor (internal and external) while guaranteeing adherence to:
- technical specifications entrusted to each contributor.
- conditions and specifications agreed with the client.
- procedures (ISO 9000, ISO 14000, VCA...) and technical notes.
- Technical coordination and management of the technical team (draftsmen, designers, specialist engineers, etc...) and with consortium partners
- Engineering sub-contractors' coordination
- Coordinate the resolution of engineering errors. Will be involved in QA inspections (as required), support the resolution of vendor claims, and work with the Erector to solve field fit-up problems and disposition of Site Problem Reports.
- Establishment of technical specifications for equipment purchasing, support and assistance for technical comparison of proposals, technical discussions with suppliers, and contract negotiation
- Technical management of suppliers (respect of technical undertakings, schedule...)
- Design and verification of component or equipment conceptualization, including validation or realization of calculation notes.
- Follow-up and verification of engineering, approval of documentation and/or drawings
- Validation or complete or partial realization of work entrusted to a Specialized Engineer
- Elaboration and follow-up of all technical documentation linked to a project
- Global coordination between projects and other activities in his/her business
- Surveillance of 'products / markets' for any development which could bring added value to the group (feedback, clients...)
- The role of expert within his/her field regarding other projects in the entity or Group
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Technology
- 5-10 years experience in a relevant field preferred.
- A Professional Engineer's license is desirable.
- Must have relevant engineering background and sufficient knowledge and interpersonal skills to coordinate multiple engineering activities simultaneously.
