Project Engineer - Electrical
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Coordinate plant construction activities as required for installation of new plant equipment or modification to existing equipment. The construction coordination may involve maintenance personnel, production personnel, and/or outside contractors. The Project Engineer will coordinate meetings as needed with the personnel who requested or will be affected by the new or modified equipment. Before the installation or modification of the equipment the Project Engineer may request quotations, develop installation schedules, and assist with fabrication details. This position must also ensure that the maintenance or construction personnel have accurate reference materials to install all equipment conduit, wiring, control desks, MCC's switch gears, etc. required for a successful electrical outage.The major challenge of this position is to ensure that equipment purchases and designs are durable, economical, and easy to fabricate and install. Installation or modification of equipment is to be accomplished with the minimum amount of outage duration and be on or below the approved budget.The Project Engineer job functions may involve high and low-voltage distribution systems and equipment, AC DC drive systems, instrumentation and control, programmable logic and computer control, and electrical machinery. Within these areas, work may include design specification, purchasing, supervision of construction and installation, commission, and troubleshooting of new or modified equipment.Assist the Environmental Engineer, Sr. Project Engineer, and or Engineering Manager with miscellaneous environmental and engineering activities.Some work items may require the services of outside engineering consultants. In this case, this position will be involved in establishing design objectives, prepare engineering bid specifications, and competitively bid the work. After receiving approval to perform the work the engineer will coordinate and monitor activities of the consultant to ensure equipment compatibility with the departments which will operate and maintain the new equipment.Maintain equipment files and resource materials such as drawings, instruction manuals, test data, design criteria, and specifications. These materials are to be organized to facilitate their use for three key purposes: as a maintenance aid, as a basis for equipment performance evaluation, and as a reference for new design and installation. These resources are to be made available to maintenance personnel to maximize their value in troubleshooting, operations, and preventive maintenance.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering5-6 years' experience working in an industrial/manufacturing/construction environmentExperience with Allen Bradley control systemsExperience with WonderWare systems preferredExperience with industrial automation troubleshooting and repair preferredWillingness to travel, including internationallyStrong background in mechanical systems is preferredSteel mill experience – preferred, but not requiredLeadership skills - ability to manage construction vendors and contractors Strong interpersonal skills with the workforce, contractors, and engineering leadership team.Ability to manage projects and project paperwork.Project management on Industrial Construction Projects is a plus.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Project.Electrical power distribution experience a plusAuto CAD experience preferredStrong communication skills with the ability to work with diverse populations and communication styles.Strong organizational skills are key in this position. Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and multi-task to be successful.
