Job Description:

Apex is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our Automation Solutions team. The position is a unique role that will focus on implementing automated material handling projects, improve our client's warehousing and distribution performance, and improve their throughput capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Support sales with quoting of potential automation projects
  • Plan, manage, and implement material handling equipment (MHE) projects
  • Develop deliverables for implementation of various MHE products and subsystems:
    • Project Schedule: Utilize base project template and update to fit with specific project
    • Drawings: Mechanical, electrical and controls
    • Prepare and Document: Installation, commissioning, testing, training, and go-live
  • Gather information for the creation of purchase orders
  • Lead pre-installation walk through, project expectations, and Q&A with vendors and client
  • Manage project plan including work tasks, schedule, budget, issues, risks and resources
  • Prepare and communicate the proper project status on weekly basis
  • Manage project scope, mitigate issues and resolve installation problems
  • Manage change orders from request through execution including document management
  • On-site inspection and supervision, as required, to ensure installation is in accordance with drawings and design specifications, and management of vendor and sub-contractor resources
  • Lead commissioning and system acceptance process
  • Coordinate development and execution of client training (operations, maintenance, and safety)
  • Perform active role in maintaining client relationships
  • Maintain shared-drive electronic files for all project documents

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, logistics or related field
  • The ability to travel is mandatory. Level of travel will be driven by project complexity and risk
  • Understanding of MHE projects, including flow analysis and controls concepts
  • Proficient in creating, and managing AutoCAD drawings within Autodesk Vault
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Familiarity with implementation of MHE technologies
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Solid communication and organizational skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a project manager and engineer in an automated MHE environment
  • Experience with systems such as WMS, WCS, or WES
  • Layout and design experience of a distribution center, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
  • Experience with systems configuration, commissioning, and testing
  • Ability and experience training end-users on new equipment and systems
  • Experience with specification preparation of MHE and systems
