LOCATION: NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA (immediate opening)

Job Description: NASA Aeronautics Research Institute (NARI) is searching for a Project Manager/Coordinator to take a leading role in coordinating and managing various projects that are executed within NARI and in collaboration with various NASA and DOD agencies, commercial industry partners, and other Working Groups. These projects concentrate on current and advanced Airspace, Air Mobility, and Aeronautic subjects. The project management and coordination functions must plan for, anticipate, and adapt to changing requirements, challenges, technologies, and opportunities in order to remain relevant and to ensure the NARI projects will support the future of the aeronautics industry. Using traditional and innovative project management approaches the candidate will coordinate the various functions, individuals, and organizations to bring about needed transformative changes and achieve lasting results. The end result of the project management process is a well-executed plan that meets the requirements of the various stakeholders and manages and delivers on their different expectations. The plan must consider all the components of a successful project, including how all of the components of the system (financial requirements, program requirements, physical networks, regulatory compliance, hardware, software, logistics, human resources, asset management, planning, monitoring, data, etc.) fit together and interact. Successful project design is critical for the required transition to and sustainment of new projects and functions which will better meet the rapidly changing needs of current aeronautics programs.

This individual will coordinate NASA development and system demonstration technologies with various NASA and DOD agencies, commercial industry partners, and Working Groups in order to demonstrate how a project will meet the demands of both current and future needs in terms of readiness, resiliency, production targets, and competitiveness in the entire life cycle. Capability development will focus on areas of improvement in the project development life cycle that can benefit NARI and associated agencies. Capability development will also focus on cultivating internal talent and skills to better position NARI for future success.

Required Education and Experience:

* Bachelor of Science Degree with a focus on Systems Acquisitions Management, Industrial Engineering, Multidisciplinary Engineering, Software Management, or similar field

* 10+ years of experience in systems acquisition, industrial engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, project engineering, project management, and/or other related fields with demonstrated successful experience managing complex, multi-faceted engineering projects

* Demonstrated experience managing a team of technicians, engineers, and support staff

* Demonstrated ability to independently establish relevant actions and priorities to meet program goals

* Excellent problem solving, communications, and organizational skills

* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

* Demonstrated experience implementing strategies balancing quality, technical, and business needs

* Experience working within the Product Life Cycle

* Experience with technical product development and new product bootstrapping

Additional Desired Skills/Experience:

* Masters of Business Administration Degree (MBA) desired

* Experience working in the DoD systems acquisition system

* Familiarity with aerospace projects and processes

* Understanding of software security models

* Understanding of cloud computing models

Required Tasks:

* Lead the management and coordination of the NARI software and project teams with government and industry partners in collaborative projects to build successful and sustainable capabilities for industry as well as government use. These capabilities will provide enabling technologies to advance the use of the national and international airspace and the use of advanced and sustainable transportation modes. They will also enhance current and future research and experimentation capabilities within government agencies.

* Identify gaps and changes needed to maintain a healthy project management process for current and future needs. Establish plans and scheduling mechanisms to define progress steps and communicate project performance.

* Define and create adaptation methods needed to accommodate changes and disruptions to plans and schedules.

* Work with contract and agency management to plan and execute assigned projects within a loosely defined matrix organization. Monitor and report progress and issues as need to complete projects successfully and close them out.

Provide necessary guidance to ensure project management processes are well understood and adopted within the government and industry participants.
