Clark Nexsen is seeking an Energy Project Manager who is passionate about energy performance and sustainability in the built environment to join our energy consulting team. Our energy consulting team provides design and consulting services related to decarbonization, renewable energy, microgrids, and energy efficiency projects. We are driven to make the world a better place through our work.General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Leading, motivating, and effectively communicating with the energy project team during scope and project execution
- Working with the Energy Business Unit Managing Principal (MP) and Energy Design Professionals to develop and present projects to clients, contractors, project team members, authorities having jurisdiction , and members of the public through all stages of the project
- Coordinating with clients in the energy sector to ensure successful completion of projects that may involve either new construction or renovation
- Facilitating a professional and successful relationship between client, contractors, and the project team
- Running project meetings and participating in firmwide management meetings
- Actively support Managing Principal(s) and Marketing in the Company's Energy Sector marketing and business development activities
- Preparing contracts and fee proposals for Managing Principal review and participating in contract negotiations
- Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
- Developing and managing project planning, budgeting, and critical project objectives
- Verify project consultants are properly licensed and insured
- Assemble staff for energy project teams with input and concurrence from Managing Principals, Design Directors & Department Heads
- Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Managing Principals and Senior Project Managers
- Ability to travel is required (potential for up to 50% travel)
- Ability to obtain a US Government issued Secret level Security Clearance is required
- Due to the need to access military installations around the world, candidate must be a United States citizen
Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform Managing Principal duties as assigned
- Monitor scope/schedule creep for potential additional services
- Provide weekly progress reports to the Client
- Maintain project documentation in electronic files and Newforma
- Assemble and maintain design discipline sheet mock-ups and work plans
- Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules with input from each discipline and consultants
- Facilitate project team meetings to review project scope, project progress, and schedule issues as well as team coordination, coordination with consultants, and problem solving
- Review RFI and shop drawing submittal responses for appropriateness and completeness
- Prepare draft monthly invoices, 12-month invoice projections and monitor accounts receivable
- Review and approve project related expenses and consultant invoices
- Assemble and review design milestone submittal deliverables and ensure completeness and quality of the submittal
- Perform project closeout and archiving tasks
- Schedule QC/QA reviews
- Schedule and/or conduct periodic site visits during construction
- Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups is required
Education, Technology, and Experience
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture is preferred
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect is preferred
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable
- Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is preferred
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation is preferred
- Additional energy certifications such as Certified Energy Auditor and Commissioning Authority (CxA) are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the energy profession
- An Energy Project Manager should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. Software programs include but are not limited to:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Newforma Project Center
- Bluebeam Revu
- Visual Planning
- AIA Contract Documents
- Newforma Project Center
- Various other MS 365 Apps (Power BI, Project, Lists, etc.)
- Working familiarity with design and production software commonly used to execute energy projects to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable.
- The Energy Project Manager should typically be a licensed professional or have 8 or more years of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role in the areas of the firm's practice and a minimum of five (5) years direct experience in the energy sector.
- Greater preference will be given to candidates who have Project Manager experience in the Federal Department of Defense (DoD) Market Sector with proven experience with the following responsibilities:
- Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs) and other federal codes, specific agency requirements and design standards
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal energy mandates, executive orders, etc.
- Organizing and facilitating project meetings with the client including Concept Design Workshops, Design Review Conference, and Value Engineering studies

- Understanding of and experience with building energy assessments, energy audits, deep energy retrofits and retro-/re-commissioning
