How You'll ContributeReporting to the Director of Project Management (Exhibits & Experiences), the Project Manager, Experiences will be a part of the team responsible for National Geographic Society's $300 million renovation project of the headquarters in Washington, D.C., creating a new public experience proposed to open in 2026; as well as supporting traveling exhibits.The Project Manager will determine timeline, budget, schedule, communications for internal teams and vendors to manage the creative development, fabrication, production, installation, and remediation of permanent exhibits in the upcoming public experience.Your ImpactResponsibilities IncludeProject Management (60%)

  • Manage concurrent projects with a variety of stakeholders, set expectations, estimate scope, assign tasks, obtain buy-in from team and leadership, oversee follow-up and completion of work.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget by developing and maintaining clear and detailed project schedules and budgets that have up-to-date estimates, costs, milestones, and timelines.
  • Define scope of work, vendor acquisition, manage the awarding of contracts, vendor conformance with deliverables, and coordinate submittals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Communication + Collaboration (30%)
  • Liaise between stakeholder groups to ensure clarity, transparency, quality, and project progression.
  • Work with the Director of Project Management and Project Management team to identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiencies, facilitation, workflow, and solutions.
  • Represent the standards of NGS as a contact for internal and external stakeholders on projects by communicating information between parties in a timely and accurate manner.
Scheduling, Reporting and Tools (10%)
  • Operate project management software systems to manage (or create when needed) work plans, timelines, and budgets that drive the overall Base Camp project schedule and completion.
  • Oversee the retention of accurate records and archives of work.

  • Highly organized, self-starter, with superb communication, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing complex projects, teams, vendors, and schedules.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work independently and in teams as required.
  • Competencies such as sound business judgment, facilitation, decision-making, problem-solving, and team building.
  • Tools expertise in project management software: Monday.com, Airtable, and/or Oracle Primavera P6 preferred.
Educational BackgroundBachelor's degreeMinimum Years And Types Of Experience5+ years of project management experience, PMP preferred. Experience in themed entertainment, creative, or museum industries preferred.SupervisionNoneSalary InformationNational Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. As such, this category has been revised to provide maximum flexibility depending on what's required for each individual role. The days Resident staff come into the office will be determined by their teams and workflow, and they should work with their supervisors to determine their specific schedule. And throughout the year, their schedule may be adjusted based on cyclical work cycles, deadlines, and/or ebbs and flows of work.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
