Job Summary Towson University (TU) is one of the nation's top 100 public universities. The Project Manager 2 manages the design and construction of facilities improvement, renovation and Capital projects while providing construction administration and construction monitoring to ensure that project requirements are being met. The role will be crucial in developing and evaluating scope of work, and developing budget cost estimates, for requested renovation and new construction projects.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing. Responsibilities and Duties - Manage all required aspects of campus construction including space alteration, renovations and Capital improvement projects not to exceed $30M. Manages multiple projects simultaneously. Meets with Design Consultants to develop detailed specifications and scope for construction projects. Provides detailed cost estimates for proposed projects. Provides working drawings for smaller projects as required.
- Directs design consultants to develop working construction documents for distribution to contractors. Manages construction managers, general contractors and in house trades' staff as required for overall project management responsibilities. Develops construction schedules in coordination with academic schedules required by the university.
- Oversees daily development of assigned projects including on site management responsibilities. Manages project accounting and project updates with project summary forms. Provides all communication and coordination relative to project development and completion to end users throughout the duration of the assigned projects.
- Performs field investigations to determine site conditions relative to proposed projects. Provides support to the operations & maintenance group as required for maintenance related work including archive research and existing conditions evaluations. May act as supplemental project manager to non-delegated University of Maryland-Baltimore (UMB) projects as required.
- Coordinates with Planning and end user groups to provide scope development and budget estimates as requested for proposed construction projects. Provides sketches/drawings as required for scope development during the planning process. Advises on schedule and budget constraints.
- Develops written specifications and drawings as needed for in house project development.
- Participates in the selection and renewal process for in house and UMB on-call construction trade contracts.
- Provides consultation to Facilities Management on specialized project practices such as roof replacement and utility upgrade projects.
Qualifications and Skills - Bachelor's degree and five or more years of experience.
- Working knowledge of general construction and industry accepted practices including code compliance and regulatory compliance including MDE, OSHA, Fire Protection.
- Basic knowledge of Life/Safety, Hazmat, and fire regulations, Word Processing, Blueprint Reading, Electrical, plumbing and HVAC practices.
- Knowledge of general accounting practices.
- On site project management, ability to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities, provide supervision and coordinate the work of others.
Preferred
- Experience in technical writing and specifications.
- Basic AutoCad.
- Electrical engineering background.
- 40 Hour OSHA Safety Training.
